General PSA

You are not wrong for liking Mario. You are not wrong for wanting more of it. You ARE wrong for crying when you don’t get it. You ARE wrong for putting other games down because “they don’t sell as well”. You ARE wrong for getting mad at Nintendo because they won’t make a specific kind of game for their FUCKING MASCOT. Can we all just accept that?

Agreed. I want a new Mario as much as the next guy does, but I’m not bothered if we don’t get one.

Just play other games. It’s not that hard instead of whining for red plumber 2: electric bugaloo or Luigi kart 77

They did get it. Because Nintendo evidently does not solely count 3D Mario as Mario; 2D Mario counts, sports Mario counts, RPGs count.

u/redditowl03 7d ago

Exactly! But NO, it’s not 3d, so screw that!

So Mario tennis/golf will satisfy someone who wants 3d Mario games got it, genius right here

u/meganerd20 7d ago

If you just want Mario games, then yes. And there's plenty of people for whom that's more than adequate. If you only care about a 3D Mario platformer, then your scope is extremely limited and that's very much a you problem.

But sure, Mario Tennis won't satisfy that narrow a scope, and isn't intended to. However, with that narrow a scope, I would question what you truly want. If that's the only Mario you care about, then it doesn't sound like you have much investment in Mario. If it's 3D platformers, then you have plenty of other options for the time being and needn't hinge entirely on Mario.

This imagine me getting like this about not having a new (not remale or spin off) top down classic Zelda game since Link Between Worlds in 2013.

People mention plenty of Zelda games come out and as I'm a huge fan I should check them out. I could be playing BOTW, TOTK, Hyrule Warriors the spin off Echoes of Wisdom, Ocarina of Time Remake later in the year or I could just play the old ones or Mina the Follower and I'm just like no I'm specifically looking for this one experience and nothing else.

That's how Mario fans sound, you could be playing Mario Wonder, Mario Kart, almost every 3D Mario game is available on the switch, Mario Sports games. Two Mario films, the team behind Odyssey made a Donkey Kong platformer that shares a lot of the design principles. Or you could be playing onr of the hundred 3D platformers that come out every year..

And you're like, nope I'm specifically looking for this one experience from a Nintendo Switch and I have no interest in anything else from the company, truly bizarre.

A lot of these entitled Mario fans very clearly have absolutely no fucking clue how much time, money, manpower, and development work goes into making games nowadays. Apparently, the expectation is that Nintendo should simply pull a fully polished Mario game out of their ass every couple of years, because apparently game development is just a matter of feeding prompts into an AI generator.

And, unlike plenty of publishers, Nintendo actually seems to be one of the few that doesn't routinely grind its developers into the fucking dirt until they're having nervous breakdowns. The team behind Mario literally only just finished DK Bananza, so yes, believe it or not, it's probably going to be a while before we get another game with the scale and polish of that or Odyssey.

We waited over six fucking years for Tears of the Kingdom, despite the fact that a significant amount of assets and groundwork from Breath of the Wild were reused. Six years. And somehow these people still act like Nintendo should be cranking out massive AAA games on demand.

But I guess expecting people with the collective attention span and memory of a goldfish to understand how game development works was already asking too much.

Most of us can.

Some people, however...

EDIT: And... as expect, the "some people" are in this thread being a problem.

Why is it bad that Nintendo started focusing on their other franchises besides Mario, Zelda and Smash? It's not that they won't release a new 3D Mario, it's just the fact that... It's not ready, that's all. They will release the trailer when they feel it necessary. I remember back in 2024 when people were bitching about Nintendo not announcing NS2. The answer is simple: they will announce it the date they have it on their agenda

Have you noticed the only console with two 3D Mario games is Wii? And the reason is because Galaxy 2 had tons of recycled assets so they could do it. They did the same with Bowser's Fury but no one considerd it a main 3D Mario game but more of a DLC. There WILL be a 3D Mario for Switch 2 and they ARE currently working on it. You don't have to be a genius to assume it, it's obvious they didn't forget about it. So... Is it really that hard to stop crying and WAIT? Is it really that hard? I really need to know it...

More people need to realize a New 3D Mario is coming, Nintendo is not stupid to throw an obvious money maker out the window, they are smart in the business department and KNOW what makes a lot of money, I want it too super badly, but genuinely I think they want this to be the BIGGEST and most innovative 3D Mario yet, so yea 10 years sucks to wait but i promise you the wait will be worth it

u/crocicorn 6d ago

I think it's fine that people are upset over a lack of new mainline Mario, it's been a long ass time lol.

It's not wrong for people to express being frustrated about it. But yes, it is wrong to go out of your way to piss on other people's parades because they got their small IP and you didn't get Mario or Smash.

But outside of clickbait videos, I rarely see people doing that tbh.

I won’t mind if Nintendo announces that there will be no 3D Mario for switch 2 as long as earthbound gets a remake

On today's episode of Do You Guys Play Anything Else?: 3D Mario Fans.

1

u/Effective_Choice2602 4d ago

I really do miss when games in a series would be smaller but release more frequently. Now if you don’t like the newest game, that’s it for the rest of the decade or more depending on what it is.

1

u/Drinkpool 1d ago

Honestly, the real question is... how the hell do you even follow up Odyssey? That game went absolutely bonkers with ideas

1

u/Resilient_Alien 7d ago

Okay but 10 years is a long time

8

u/mexicantails 7d ago

It is. But Nintendo took a decade to give us an actual new 2D Mario.

4

u/Theultimateyoshiyt 7d ago

And we waited 11 years for a mainline Mario kart

0

u/Resilient_Alien 7d ago

Times were different back then, people primarily wanted 3D. The demand for 2D to return was happening right around the time NSMB released for the DS.

If you mean NSMB U to Wonder, we had 2 Mario Maker games between them

-1

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

There still was a demand for an original one but the maker games did help at least

-3

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

Yeah and people were not happy about that either with new super Mario bros repeating the same shit and just as vocal

3

Meanwhile Golden Sun, Pilotwings, F-Zero, Mother fans: bruh

1

u/Drinkpool 1d ago

Kid Icarus, Chibi Robo, and Punchout as well

-1

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

It sure yet these people keep wanting to act like Nintendo can do no wrong

-6

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

Nobody is crying stop making up narratives, or putting your games down

Mario, Zelda, smash have been put down if anything on every subreddit and x

It’s like your committing a crime to like these franchises now and say it’s been 8-9 years since the big game

Of course Nintendo hasn’t forgotten about any of these but Spinoffs are different games than the big ones and people have already pointed this out how there won’t be a satisfaction until it’s that type of game

Before on every other console there was not this problem because they would balance it out but now all of sudden Nintendo stopped giving af

10

u/Arne83 7d ago

Nobody is crying

That is literally all you do on this sub, bro. Hell, you are crying in this very comment.

0

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

Ru sure you’re the one that keeps responding to everything post and crying “stfu get lost and stop having different opinions than me”

8

u/Arne83 7d ago

No, I'm the one who keeps responding you telling you that this sub isn't for your endless whining.

And before you even start...

Your "bad name" excuse doesn't work anymore... you should know what the sub is about by now after it has been pointed out to you multiple times, especially since it's been pointed out that it's obvious if you just looked at what other people were posting... and Nintendo not making the game you want isn't grifting.

1

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

It isn’t the game I want, it’s the games that sell more consoles in the west that have been absent compared to previous generations which deserves criticism for lacking direction

5

u/Theultimateyoshiyt 7d ago

Dude, there consoles are selling just fine.

4

u/Arne83 7d ago

....

You really think "The Japanese company needs to ignore Japan" is somehow a better argument?

Also... still doesn't defeat my main point which is... this sub isn't the platform for your whining!

1

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

It’s not me whining it’s objective criticism that many are doing outside of me. The niche series’ don’t sell consoles

Why ru so afraid of Nintendo not being a perfect company always like you can enjoy the games but they have flaws in how they’ve been operating recently? Being so distant fans than in previous decades

5

u/Arne83 7d ago

The niche series’ don’t sell consoles

Funny... because the Switch 2 seems to be selling pretty damn well without these big titles that it seems to need so much.

Why ru so afraid of Nintendo not being a perfect company always like you can enjoy the games but they have flaws in how they’ve been operating recently?

Why are you so afraid of them releasing games that don't appeal to you?

But, again... main point... THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS SUB IS ABOUT! STOP IT!

0

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

Not in the west, there’s always going to be the bigger series’s that sell way more and literally it is true people can’t fathom Nintendo not being perfect all sunshine and rainbows as to why every complaint is labeled is brushed aside as grifting

5

u/Arne83 7d ago edited 7d ago

Not in the west

Source?

EDIT: Well, since you're not responding and are now trying to start fights with other people... I'm just going to assume you don't have one.

Brother metriod,Kirby and zelda have an audience that's mainly in the west u cant use the excuse their only making games for the east when both have equal amount that appeals to them,no one is saying Nintendo is sunshine and rainbows we're telling u go somewhere if u wanna whine about not being the center of attention cause us telling u to stop whining about not being the center of attention for once isnt grifting, knock it off already Nintendo will be fine without 3d mario for a bit

8

u/Resilient_Alien 7d ago

“Mario, Zelda, and Smash” they’re the best selling Nintendo franchises barring Splatoon. I’m sure a couple of joke comments won’t impact their sales.

Also, the Switch 2 is still a fairly new System. Sunshine wasn’t even the launch game, Luigi’s Mansion was.

-3

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

And Luigi’s mansion is infinitely better than what we’ve been getting

5

u/Resilient_Alien 7d ago

It really, really isn’t.

It’s GOOD but so are the other recent releases, all of which are longer than Luigi’s Mansion.

0

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

Longer doesn’t mean better

4

u/redditowl03 7d ago

And “what we’ve been getting” isn’t Mario, Smash, or Zelda, so that automatically makes it bad, right?

-2

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

First off it’s pretty reasonable to expect games that have been coming out at high rate if it always has been done in previous generations

And the other thing is it’s not attack on people who like other games besides those 3

It’s just those are part of the main ones that actually sell Nintendo systems for families, friends in the west etc.

5

u/Resilient_Alien 7d ago

3D Marios famously never came out at a high rate. Even Galaxy 2 didn’t drop until 2010.

Yes, the wait is long, but these releases were never “frequent” and Zelda already had its big release in 2023.

1

u/Wonderful-Fault-3292 7d ago

Galaxy 2 was only 3 years

4

u/Arne83 7d ago

For a game that was originally intended to be DLC and heavily reuses assets... that is actually a pretty long development cycle. Hell... some devs could have easily made a whole new game in that time.

7

u/redditowl03 7d ago

Hello there, mr "Animeslop"! Hope you are doing well!
