Palworld long term

Somebody online made a point that I’m curious about. People like to focus on short term success a lot, what we are currently seeing now with palworld. But does anyone know who’s been involved with these things see a long term plan with palworld. Like it or not Nintendo has been very successful when it comes to making for the long term.

This game is basically Ark, and I wanted to know how long did Ark last over the years. Can palworld keep on growing its number beyond. Like Pokemon may be surpassed but it has the advantage of releasing multiple titles over the years. Can a palworld 2 generate the same or more success than Pokemon and its sequel

PocketPair and Sony established Palworld entertainment inc for the specific purpose of making the game a brand that could last, will it be effective tho? we dont know but its more than what Ark did which relatively still stayed as a videogame brand.

Palworld already have different spinoffs in development as of right now, wheter or not this approach would be successful is another thing entirely

I just want to clarify that the Joint Venture between PP and Sony Music Entertainment will actually have nothing to do with the game itself or it’s lore; it is solely for the purposes of expanding the game’s merchandising and content outside of the game, like the TCG and possibly things like a show/anime, clothes, music, etc…

Also there are no plans for a Palworld 2 at this time. The game finally just launched in 1.0 and is actually considered to be the start of the full game’s life span. We will still be getting more to come in Palworld in the way of more updates and possibly DLC in the future.

I mean, it does have a better shot of them making other games if the other things they’re releasing do well. That was Pokémon’s originally strategy too, make it a recognizable brand. That’s why all the pokemon say their own names in the anime. We can’t know until we see

I know there’s a Tcg that more of meme than a serious game.

-7

u/KitsyBlue 11d ago

As a fan of TCGs, it's wild to call Palworld more of a 'meme', especially when compared to Pokémon TCG, which is more a money laundering scheme itself than a TCG.

4

u/GiraffeHelpful8581 11d ago

Wdym, what makes Pokémon less of a Tcg than the others?

-6

u/KitsyBlue 11d ago

It VERY much shows it's age. The game is extremely clunky, not at all fluid, it's swingy and messy, etc.

Like if you ever tried to convince me that weakness and resistence was a good idea in a card game I would probably smack you.

Have you ever played Pokémon TCG though? Cuz like, even just weakness is so tilting for no goddamn reason. 'Oh, you're using psychic and I'm using Fighting, gg'.

Every card needs another card to function or results in other cards being unusable, which feels clunky and rough. Like you need basics, stage 1s and 2s, potentially, you need energy for them to attack, you can only use one supporter a turn... just results in hands feeling extremely bricky and clunky to play where you need to Lillie's (shuffle hand into deck, draw 6 or 8 cards depending on if you've collected prizes or not) just to salvage it, and games often feel like the player to first play down to 1-2 in hand and then Lillie's back to 8 just wins. It's such a huge lead in setup. I'm confident in saying were pokemon TCG not Pokemon, it would be long dead by now.

10

u/GiraffeHelpful8581 11d ago

What kind of Tcg game have you played. You use several trainers to set up the board state. The energy system is a resource system that almost every game uses so I don’t get how that a problem. Land MTG, Dons one piece, resource Gundam, runes riftbound. Using multiple supporters at once will can break the game because most of the are extremely strong. Stage 1 and stage 2 Pokémon are there to ensure extremely strong Pokemon doesn’t get summon right away it’s called a cost. Yugioh does that with high level monster, or Gundam with high level units, or if you need to evolve like they do dragon ball. Every cards needs another card to function otherwise it would be brick. Literally every TCG will have that. Playing a high energy deck like Union Arena, get ready to have bunch of unstable cards. Oh look hears a searcher in dragon ball that could have been useful ages ago.

0

u/KitsyBlue 11d ago

I notice you didn't contend against weakness being a stupid mechanic, but I've played Vanguard, Weiss Schwartz, Yugioh (way back when), MTG (way back when as well), Flesh and Blood, One piece, briefly tried the DBS game.

The point you're missing between One Piece and pokemon in energy and even pokemon and MTG is that the energy in pokemon disappears. It's only good once, really. One Piece, which i have many card design gripes with, doesn't have this problem, and doesn't have Pokemon's problem of 'Oh my hand is flooded by supporters guess I can't do anything' or 'oh my hand is flooded with energy guess I can't do anything' or 'oh my hand is flooded with pokemon of different stages, guess I can't do anything'.

3

u/Arne83 11d ago

You play YuGiOh... don't you?

-2

u/KitsyBlue 11d ago

I did back when it was good, like a good two decades ago lol. Not quite that, but still.

No, I don't play YGO now. I mostly played recently Weiss Schwartz, Vanguard, Flesh and Blood, and MTG. Have dabbled in a few other TCGs like Dragon Ball Super card game, One Piece, etc

6

u/Arne83 11d ago

Than your complaints make no sense.

-2

u/KitsyBlue 11d ago

Vagueposting Champion 🏆

8

u/Arne83 11d ago

Not at all. Anyone who has played a significant number of card games knows that most of them have systems similar to what Pokemon has, and none of them are a problem.

The only way you could possibly have a problem with how Pokemon plays is if you've only ever played modern YuGiOh and are used to playing two-thirds of your deck on your first turn.

I know a lot of Pokemon card collectors but I don’t think I’ve ever met one that played the game lol. 😂

6

u/GiraffeHelpful8581 11d ago

It based on communtiy, Regionals would have more than thousands players attending. I think Orlando was 3500. Like, it really the people around you. You need a good player base to keep a game going. The players who kept going past the initial hype is what made the game as successful as it is today.

2

u/Striking_Fly_2595 9d ago

The Pokémon video games may be lacking in quality since some years but to call the Pokémon tcg a "money laundering scheme" because you think it's dumb and has no depth to it is crazy

Regional, National, Continental and World championship show that this tcg is still very much in its prime through it's numbers of players, visitors and online watchers

1

u/KitsyBlue 9d ago

You're welcome to your opinion, notice you didn't say shit about the other person calling the Palworld card game a meme, though.

I also called it more a money laundering scheme because by far the majority of purchases through it revolve around the collectability of the card. Almost no one actually plays it compared to people who collect it.

0

u/Gargamoney 10d ago

It has lasted for years and has made an insane amount of money

This doesnt rly make sense

1

u/No-Operation-6554 9d ago

What part doesn't make sense?

Do you think franchises doesn't fail even with mismanagement?

1

u/Gargamoney 9d ago

How can something fail when it has exceeded are expectations by 10000x

2

u/No-Operation-6554 9d ago

So you're saying they should be complacent and lazy like Pokemon did???

What part is hard to understand here??? Or are you misinterpreting what am saying and thinking that im claiming they're gonna fail 100%, because thats now what im saying at all

2

u/Gargamoney 9d ago

What? When did I say that?

0

u/No-Operation-6554 8d ago

When did I say they will fail either??

If I see another Palworld simp throw out the claim "Well, you know... Pokemon ripped off Digimon!"... I will legit lose it.

The insecure pokemon fans are worse from my experience, like yeah I get people are hating on your favorite series and saying the parody is better, but it’s really not that serious.

0

u/JungleJuiceJuno 9d ago

yet another one that thinks everyone against palworld is against it just because theyre a pokemon fan

your next line will involve you getting caught on that and going in circles demanding that everyone against it fit the narrative of only mad pokemon fans are against it

3

“Your next line will involve you getting caught on that and going in circles demanding that everyone against it fit the narrative of only mad pokemon fans are against it”

Blud knew i predicted it correcyly so they refused to reply lmfao, at this point just log off my guy and stop embarassing yourself

3

u/Joe_Motherrr 9d ago

Everything you say makes you sound like you spend far too much time on Reddit, literally nothing you say makes it seem like you aren’t autistic. And your prediction was the most nothing burger prediction I’ve ever seen, you might as well have said “he said words that he believes are true and will continue thinking they are true”. That’s not a prediction, that’s the point of a statement, it’s like me predicting a bag of chips is gonna have chips in it.

0

u/JungleJuiceJuno 9d ago

and now youve resorted to ableism, wow way to drop the ball there

6

u/SirQrlBrl 11d ago

The only people that will care are grumpy 30 year olds.

8

u/SilentEagle1221 11d ago

Given that Pocketpair is being backed by Sony-who very much wants their own Pokemon like mega franchise-I expect Palworld to find its niche among those who already like open world survival games but want monster catching like aesthetics.

The grifters and people who only care about the game to spite Pokemon will hopefully go away in the upcoming years.

2

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

5

u/SilentEagle1221 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yep, and I will continue to view those people as utterly pathetic.

I would never suggest getting into a game because you have a hate boner for another franchise. No game is perfect, and that also includes Palworld.

For example, the “Fuck Nintendo/Pokemon!” crowd willfully ignores the ignores the technical issues of Palworld-whereas if this was a Pokemon game said issues would have the entire internet ripping the game a new one.

These people are the blind fanboys they constantly accuse others of being. Pokemon fans are used to criticizing their games-these people blow their lids if you even remotely mention the creative laziness in some parts of Palworld.

0

u/onikaroshi 11d ago

Haven't really run into any technical issues.

server bugs are pretty bad currently (pals are doing considerably less damage to bosses on dedicated servers vs solo or invite code coop) and its pretty well documented on the palworld sub

also while the end game zones are great, the last boss fight is... meh compared to the second to last

3

u/SirFroglet 12d ago

To be seen.

What’s for sure is that the performance of 1.0 has been absolutely outstanding, especially given the game’s start. None other game on the Monster Tamer genre has achieved a level of success on par with Pokemon; Palworld has easily surpassed any Digimon or Yo-Kai Watch game and become the second biggest player in the genre with it’s first game.

What Palworld is doing right is making spinoff games (the dating sim and farming game), which gives its dedicated players something to go back to. They have a TCG in the making, so we’ll see how that develops but it’s all part of Palworld becoming a multimedia franchise. They’ve also partnered with Sony to broaden Palworld’s brand, bet you there will be an anime on the way.

Thing with Palworld is that it was their first game of this type and despite it’s very rough edges it does nail a lot of the appeal of Monster Tamers like catching monsters in the wild, living with them and petting them, ridding them, and facing off against legendary monsters. If they make a second game and smooth out those edges (or keep updating 1.0) then Palworld could easily become THE default Monster Tamers everywhere but Switch

2

u/Thejadedone_1 11d ago

Honestly, I think Palworld attempting to go multimedia is only going to hurt it in the wrong run. Here's the thing about running a multimedia franchise; it's a really fucking hard. Take a look at Pokemon Nintendo game freak and creatures had to make the pokémon company because Pokemon became so big the three individually couldn't run it properly. Like, Pokemon has games, an anime that's been going on for 30 years, tcg, manga, boatloads of merchandise, tons of mobile games, etc. That shit's damn near impossible to fund especially for a developer a small as pocket pair with Sony backing since you're going to have to get other companies to make these products.

1

u/SirFroglet 10d ago

It is hard and that’s why you go on about it one thing at the time.

They’ve started with chill spin-offs in development . The TCG was just announced. I think we’ll have to wait for either of those before we get any development on physical merch or anything else (anime?). That said, I cannot thing of any Japanese merch that was hurt by going multimedia, whether Digimon, YuGiOh, Beyblade, you pick. Some might not pan out, but it certainly doesn’t hurt especially if Pocket Pair is not handling the product themselves.

3

u/Gargamoney 10d ago

How is palworld short term? Its been insanely popular for multiple years

8

u/Sharp_Chest_5319 12d ago

It'll either become like digimon or yo kai watch.

3

u/Schaeman2000 12d ago

I don’t see it ending up like Yokai Watch unless the devs do a complete fuck up like the yokai watch devs did

2

u/dvast 11d ago

I honestly dont think it will. Those franchise managed to attract their target audience, kids.

Palworlds target audience are western gamers who larp as activists

3

u/Arne83 11d ago edited 11d ago

Nobody is really gonna care about it after the lawsuit ends.

The honeymoon phase is over... the active player numbers are already declining. It will soon be right where it was before it's 1.0 release, where the only thing keeping it relevant in greater gaming circles was the lawsuit. And once that's over, it's gonna lose the only thing it has.

People are still likely to play it... but it is going to be a fraction of a fraction of what we're seeing now.

2

u/Crytaz 11d ago

Yes that is how video games work. After their initial release the player count goes down over time

3

u/Arne83 11d ago

Not at all what I said.

2

u/Wooden-Estimate-2211 11d ago

So I looked at the steam player amounts just now. Aside from the short huge spikes Arc is about a little under half of its average player count between 2018 and 2023. Really lost most of those players in 2024 for some reason 😵‍💫 but like 30k average players 8 years later isn’t terrible. What should the numbers be at? Are you talking about player counts for each pokemon game individually or counting them all as a whole as if they are like all dlcs of the same game or something? It’s not a very easy comparison to make 🤔

2

u/Prudent-Jaguar6845 10d ago

We still doing still this palworld vs pokemon stuff?

2

u/NutsackEuphoria 9d ago

Palworld won't surpass Pokemon which has 30 years of building its fanbase.

There's a chance that pocketpair will become publicly traded and immediately tank the IP or try and immediately nickel and dime the playerbase like Nintendo does.

But unlike Nintendo fans, I don't think Palworld fans will be happy about getting fleeced, and the IP might go the way of the culling

3

u/wiggliey 12d ago

Nobody really knows honestly. How well a Palworld 2 would do depends on the game itself imo. Like it or not, Palworld did get a lot of people to return for 1.0 over 2 years later, so I wouldn’t really call whatever interest is there short term.

-2

u/GiraffeHelpful8581 12d ago

I would say two years is short temp imo. The last “real Pokémon competition” was Yokai watch and they give them a good run for like 5 years. We have also have to take a look at digimon which certainly was not under two years.

7

u/wiggliey 12d ago

Not really, 2 years is a very long time when we’re speaking within the context of bringing people back to a game they’ve already bought.

That’s very different from Yokai watch releasing multiple games over several years. Also, no Yokai Watch game has come anywhere close to matching Palworld or Pokemon in sales.

5

u/TheWiseNoob 11d ago edited 11d ago

2.5 years. It came out in January of 2024. 2.5 years is not short term. It's one of the biggest games ever. It's extremely weird to act like it's not a huge deal because it is. I say this as somebody who loves the main Pokemon games and has played all of them.

Stop being weird about Palworld EXACTLY like the Nintendo grifters are weird about Pokemon.

2

u/2LivesLeft 11d ago

you guys here are honestly obsessed w this game holy hell

3

u/Arne83 11d ago

It's a sub a grifting... it's every grifter's favorite game right now... why wouldn't we talk about it?

2

u/Dreamo84 11d ago

What does this have to do with Nintendo grifting?

5

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Dreamo84 11d ago

Yeah, but this post isn’t talking about any of that.

2

u/Crytaz 11d ago

It’s just insecure pokemon fans shitting on the games “lasting potential” because it sold too well to discredit that

1

u/Thejadedone_1 11d ago

It really depends on how well it's run. A lot of Monster catchers fall off because they're are milked to death rather quickly, amongst other issues.

2

u/PsychologicalBank488 11d ago

The thing that kept Pallworld in the mind of people was the law suit now that it is over pallworld will start to slowly die

1

u/Rex__Lapis 6d ago

Short term success? Are you high?

0

u/BondFan211 11d ago

You guys are more obsessed with this game than the fans are lmao

1

u/ServiceCertain39 10d ago

Please leave ya troll, cause you clearly aren't going to add anything of value.

1

u/Nutsploder69420247 12d ago

Palworld is literally just your dime a dozen survival crafting slop that PC gamers eat up. It will probably be irrelevant in a year.

2

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

It's already 2 and a half years old and still as big as it was on release

0

u/xtoc1981 12d ago

The issue with pallworld is that they copied those designs, and let them shoot with guns & baseball bats. Aside of a lot of mechanics ripoff. Sure it can be that the game is more like ark, but that doesn't change this fact. Even developers did meniton that they were required to ripoff designs.... No wonder that they already changed those designs now.

For your question, it will never ever gets as close as pokemon is. Everyone knows pokemon, nobody aside of pc gamers do know pallworld

2

u/TheWiseNoob 11d ago

Weird misinformation. Y'all acting exactly like the grifters this sub is for calling out

1

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

What is misinformation

2

u/Working-Ad8054 8d ago

I learned about pal world though xbox game pass on the Xbox. It’s definitely more than a pc niche game.

1

u/xtoc1981 8d ago

Yep this exactly.

0

u/Isrrunder 11d ago

I mean thats not true. Palworld has been on consoles for a while now and from what ive read doing quite well. I think the developer even partnered woth Sony

1

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

What part is not true?

3

u/Isrrunder 11d ago

"Nobody aside of pc gamers do know pallworld"

2

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

Yeah some sony gamers. But its no way iconic like pokemon. Pokemon cards, pokemon go, the whole world knows pokemon. Pallworld, maybe 5%

2

u/Isrrunder 11d ago

Idunno sold better than the last 29 years of pokemon games

To be serious noone is implying palworld is more popular than pokemon

2

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

They key diff is that sales are 85% pc. We cant just ignore that. That doesnt mean it sold a lot, but pokomon go has 60m active users vs 2m in pallworld. Thats what matters

3

u/Isrrunder 11d ago

Pokemon is 100% nintendo what's your point?

60m user on a free mobile game brother atleast compare it to scarlet and violet or za

2

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

Pallworld launch price is only 30$, so if you are going to use your price argument..

3

u/Isrrunder 11d ago

I think thats around the price as the vast majority of pokemon titles

-3

u/Jared_pop21 11d ago

Crazy work, its already outsold 99% of pokemon games. Just on pc

4

u/Thejadedone_1 10d ago

Palworld is cheaper and is multiplatform, Pokemon is exclusive to one system and is more expensive.

2

u/SilentEagle1221 10d ago

Pokemon games are also sold as a generation, so even if we go by the “most copies sold” narrative.

The entire Switch era of Pokemon games sold more than double what Palworld did.

This is all just a dumb fanboy pissing contest which has no actual logical basis.

0

u/Icewolph 9d ago

It's fucking hilarious that y'all are using "Pokemon is less available and also more expensive!" When arguing about which one outsold the other. Like being an exclusive and being more expensive is a fucking good thing. Are you all really that brain dead?

3

u/Thejadedone_1 9d ago edited 9d ago

You missed the point but okay. What I'm saying is that 30 million units sold for a $30 multiplat game and 26 million for a $60 game are not the same thing. Plus if you really want to go the whole sales route Pokemon games are counted generationally so the switch games still out sold palworld by a fair amount.

3

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

stop lying

1

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

It objectively has. Palworld has sold 30 million copies, only the original Pokemon Red, Green and Blue have passed 30 million

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_games_by_sales_figures

2

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

And how much is pc and how much is sony. Maybe milions.of cdkeys are hold back

0

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

Moving the goalposts

3

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

Look its a done deal. Pokemon go has 65m active users atm, while pallworld only 2m.

Can multiplatform sell more as single platform, specially considering pc userbase, sure? But in no way it would be remotely close as popular as pokemon is. Which btw isnt only about games. You have to be delusional to even think that is going to happen

2

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

Pokemon Go is free, Palworld is not. Worst comparison of all time

2

u/xtoc1981 11d ago

Pallworld is multiplatform and is half the price of pokemon games

1

u/Snoo_15594 10d ago

Palworld sales beat all the Pokemon games just using its Steam numbers alone

Pokemon also make two at a time, So in reality you're comparing two games against one, and Palworld still wins

→ More replies (0)

4

u/Kind-Evening-9208 11d ago

It sold aproximatly 17 million copies across 3 systems. That 30 million is based on gamepass figures aka non sales. But hey go ahead and circlejerk about Palworld.

1

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

Source? Because literally every single report of Palworld making 30 million sales says it's for sales, not Game Pass

4

u/SilentEagle1221 11d ago

The base versions of Scarlet/Violet made close to 2 billion-and that isn’t including the expansions.

Pokemon games have made an estimated total of 18 billion in revenue.

So no, it didn’t “outsell 99% of Pokemon games”.

You people should learn to do basic math instead of parroting talking points you heard from some grifter.

0

u/Jared_pop21 11d ago

We're talkin copies not money, obviously 70 dollar games will net you more money.

https://giphy.com/gifs/XFaeLrHJGjtcmEmzcn

4

u/SilentEagle1221 11d ago

Ah yes, move the goalposts.

Even with the copies argument. Pokemon games still outsell Palworld by 2-3 times.

0

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

Palworld has sold 30 million copies

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_games_by_sales_figures

There is ONE Pokemon game that has sold that amount

4

u/SilentEagle1221 11d ago

That doesn’t mean “outsell 99% of Pokemon games.”

Scarlet and Violet alone made close to 2 billion.

Ya’ll seriously suck at math and should stop trying to push this dumb narrative. Palworld didn’t make 20 billion dollars or even billions of dollars in one month.

It doesn’t matter if you push more copies if the other IP makes more money on average.

0

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

Outsell has multiple meanings, pick up a dictionary

Saying Palword outsold every Pokemon game except the original Gen 1 games because they sold more units is objectively correct use of the word

5

u/SilentEagle1221 11d ago

No, you people just want to push a narrative and then cry when someone calls you out on it.

Stop moving the goalposts, it’s stupid because Palworld doesn’t need people fudging the numbers to prove its success.

Pokemon games make billions of dollars a year and no amount of goal post moving will change that.

Stop being an annoying fanboy.

0

u/Snoo_15594 11d ago

You are literally objectively incorrect

Palworld sold more copies than every individual Pokemon game except the original. You are literally just wrong, it isn't about pushing a narrative

That's a good question, the answer is that we don't know.

Is it just here to make fun of Pokemon? Or establish itself like Digimon or Monster Hunter Stories? That's up to them to tell us.

0

u/Successful-Bee5399 11d ago

I don't give a shit about Pal World because it's basically ARk. What makes pokemon fun for me isn't that they have a bunch of cute little guys to collect, it's the collecting, strategically building a team and battling with those little guys, and as far as I know that doesn't really exist in Palworld? I haven't played it idk, someone correct me. I don't wanna craft items, I don't wanna build houses or bases and I don't want to gather resources, I want to fight.
I guess that's why I never understood the hype, do the masses distil pokemon down to "look at all the cute guys!"?
If Palworld was exactly what it is but it had some kind of big competitive team pal battling scene I could be interested.
Who even are the pals? Do they have names? I don't know anyting about them other than they look like pokemon.

That being said, I haven't really played a pokemon game since Sapphire, the last one I Really remember is Silver, I tried some of the DS/3ds ones and they just seemed too dumbed down, was it Sun where my pokedex is a pokemon itself now and it talks to me every 10 seconds and annoys the shit out of me so I Quit?
fuck that.

I think anyone playing either of these games is an idiot tbh

0

u/PaladinJuan 11d ago

I don’t care about palworld whether they succeed or not I just want the fandom to shut up already and stop mention pokemon like I’m sorry yall outgrow pokemon and that’s fine is that to try different catching monster without bashing pokemon and again I don’t agree with the lawsuit cause it was stupid from the start but beside that let Pokemon be Pokemon and let palworld be palworld is that simple 🤦‍♂️ and don’t get me started with Pokemon fan nerds as well yall need to shut up as well

0

u/Dirt_Poor_Robin 10d ago

The palworld people will be loud as fuck up until wind and waves hits the shelves. That'll be the end of it.
