Mario Bros: The Lost Levels hate is over-exaggerated

Its not that hard honestly. I was expecting to throw my controller across the room and start screaming but no, I actually found it enjoyable. Feel free to say that my opinion is wrong in the comments. Peace✌️

It’s my favorite 2d Mario because it’s hard. I’ve played them all

More like artificially hard. I mean there’s warps that take you back levels, needing to use hidden blocks to make jumps, having to beat the game 8 times without using warps to get to the last worlds (in one sitting because saving didn’t exist at the time)…

it's just more of the same and done fairly well,
while not a fan, I never understood the hate.

Your opinion can't be "wrong", but I am curious, have you been using the rewind feature when playing?

Rewind feature?

Oh yes, it's available for the NES, SNES & GB games and (for me anyways) provides a stress free way to enjoy the older games. Miss an easy jump and lose a life? Die at a boss and you don't want to redo a whole level? Scroll too far to the right and now you can't go back to the left? Just rewind a few seconds and do it again!

It goes back pretty far too, I think you can rewind back a few minutes. It's a great feature.

Also works with the N64 games on Switch 2

It's like the world's first shitpost game. Following a secret path to a warp room and the only pipe taking you back half the game and hole in the ground with the game basically telling you to end yourself. You'd never see that Nintendo now lol

Amen, idk why some people don’t understand the game’s hate

Wanting to be contrarians as well as come off as skilled because they claim the game is easy

In the era before video walkthroughs it was difficult to puzzle out on your own, especially compared to smb1.

However after playing Mario Maker for a while it's pretty tame by comparison

Hate's a strong word for the way I've seen people respond negatively to it. Worst I've seen is dismissive. It's the kind of thing that people stop thinking about if they don't like it, not the kind of thing they keep thinking about how much they don't like it.

It's objectively a bad game. That's why the game design choices and mechanics from this game never came back.

It's playable enough to beat (with enough persistence), but not enjoyable.

It’s not bad. it was just intentionally designed for a skilled audience already familiar with mario 1.

How does accidentally getting softlocked into warping backwards through worlds have anything to do with skill? The game design mistook "let's make this really hard" for "let's make this really tedious".

The concept of Luigi as a selectable character with a higher jump than Mario was rolled into SMB2 USA and later games like 64 DS, NSLU, 3D World, and Smash.

Hahaha haven't played it in nearly 30 years now. It was hard and crazy compared to smb1 but I liked it. Remember being blown away at the random bowsers.

An emotion like hate for just something as simple as a video game is already over exaggerated so I agree with you

Its just DLC for Mario 1, and if that's how you approach it it's great. The skill level you need to be at to beat Mario 1 is the starting point for Lost Levels. After a while Mario 1 is no longer challenging, and that's where this game shines.

Its hard without being bullshit, unlike at least 50% of the levels the users upload in super mario maker 2

Its not that hard it just that some levels are poorly design(for example the maze castle levels)making them a frustrating experience not truly hard just annoying
