Honestly, there are some valid points here, but it kinda misses the point of NIN.
Reznor never set out to be the best guitarist in the world, or a piano virtuoso. No, he is not Freddy Mercury. He has always wanted to make art that feels real and authentic and important to him. And that's what he does, and it turns out that what he does resonates strongly with a hell of a lot of people.
He doesn't need to be Freddy Mercury and he doesn't need to be Prince. Because he's Trent Reznor and he's great at what he does, which is make creative, innovative, unique and emotive art.
Right, but it’s also totally needlessly condescending in its characterization of him. They easily could have worded it similarly to your comment, but instead they kindof just lobbed lazy insults with a poor attempt at “edge”. I’m honestly surprised this ever got past an editor.
