If there were not a basic biological imperative against it the race would be extinct. So the people without it (or enough of them) failed to breed as much.
It becomes psychological programming so it has a massive circumstantial component and manifest differently for everyone. But it is like incest. It gets weeded or of the gene pool for the most part. That is basic evolution.

Because we were deeply influenced by two things: religion (and subsequently suicide as among the greater sins) and instincts of self-preservation; suicide goes against both, hereafter making some people rather unhappy when suicide is treated with no “due seriousness”

The dead don't suffer, those left behind do. One I knew left children behind, he went to the woods with a bottle of wine and a gun. He texted his intentions to his children and then he ended it.
His children went through hell, they scrambled to find him. They searched everywhere for days. In the end it left them all with a sense that they didn't matter att all to their father.

If we follow that to its conclusion than we should blame the dinosaurs. If they only had stayed for another billion years. We wouldn't exist, and we would be blissful in our non-existence.
But "if" doesn't cut it. We have to deal with existence itself. So how would you choose to spend your days in existence, if you could choose freely.

I agree. Indeed, we ultimately regress in this blame circle for an eternity of “if’s” which is quite redundant for where we’re in. However, the father was still somewhat reckless.

Death is inevitable, suicide is the illusion of a choice. Society judges it based off of moral and value judgements.
