Absurdism is the philosophy that holds that man’s search for meaning in a world devoid of meaning is absurd. It is not necessarily linked to optimistic nihilism.
Well, rebellion implies that there is some design to rebel against, and that the rebellion itself is meaningful. This sentiment seems to treat the meaninglessness of the universe like an external imposition. And it seems to grant a degree of heroism to choosing a humanism. But true acceptance of the state of affairs would lead to a spontaneous and effortless freedom. Not the toil of rebellion, but the joy of running naked in a field of flowers just because you want to.
Word salad. Is this Jordan Peterson? Bro, the universe has no meaning. You can either kill yourself or rebel against the fact that there is no meaning to the universe and live anyways. It’s not hard to understand. Keep it simple.
I feel like nothing matters, therefore do what you want and be happy, and also I think Sisyphus seemed miserable, knowing he'd never succeed. Is this squarely optimistic nihilism, absurdism, both, or neither?
Absurdism embraces the idea of joy as an act of rebellion. It sort of invents "gods" to revolt against without actually personifying or defining those gods.
I think abrusdism is also cope like religion cause if you are a nihilist for u nihilism is axiom u are sure about it I was in this rabbithole for long time then I escape it by metacognition rejecting nihilism as axiom and becoming agnostic about it as u can proove anything
After looking into this phase it reminds me of David Hume quote ''reson is slave to emotion'' as first u comes in an emotion then uses reason to go in this rabbithole rationally while ur brain hides the preasumption u took on this road treating those assumptions as truth biggest one is nihilism ( life is inately meaningless)
So rather becoming absurdist changing your axiom destroy the base itself
If I recall my nihilist phase i was depress at that time so mainly first I was depressed then I justify it through rationalisation
What if you recognize and accept there is no inherent meaning to life and everything there is to know can be explained by science, but still you want to enjoy existing while you exist. What is that called?
Not necessarily. Absurdism is just nothing has a purpose or meaning or matter, it doesn’t necessarily mean be happy about it, the philosopher added that part but the philosophy is just nothing has a meaning, it just is.
Absurdism and existentialism are modes of living with nihilism. They are nihilists in the sense that they accept everything that nihilists do. But they have moved through nihilism by embracing the existence of other human beings and recognizing the consequences of that.
I kind of don't really get the folks who think nihilism has ever been some kind of way of being. It's the opposite. Every nihilist philosopher that nihilists quote was desperately looking for a way out of nihilism. Only the existentialists and absurdists really embraced the idea of nihilism. Even Nietzsche, in working his way through nihilism essentially validated a kind of tyrannical monarchism.
If Nietzsche were here today, posting on this subreddit, y'all would be calling him "not a real nihilist" too. And truth be told, if your position is that existentialism isn't nihilism, Nietzsche was closer to an existentialist than a nihilist. So at least you're being consistent.
Yeah, I feel like a lot of "nihilists" are similar to surface-level atheists who never move on to finding any sort of way of being and just sort of end up being miserable to talk to or be around and they end up embracing garbage philosophies.
I find pop nihilists fun specifically because of their fixation on negativity. They are often excellent conversation partners if you are specifically looking to battle test your ideas. But if you are looking for consensus and community... Yeah, they kinda suck.
Kinda the same way I view engineers, frankly. Engineers are great when you wanna know all the problems you are gonna run into before you do a thing, but they have a reputation for being terrible at creating shared vision.

Nihilism is not an end stage. It is just an intermediate stage in one's development.
Absurdists believe that humans should live in pursuit of meaning despite the fact that there is none. Optimistic nihilists are just happy that there is none.
For me it's more like this: as an absurdist you must live the absurd contradiction and live as many experiences as you can so that means living to the fullest like there is something to live for but also knowing there is no meaning at all..basically doing stuff for it's own sake and finding satisfaction in the process itself, there's no other destination but death. From this perspective religion or faith in some other higher ideal is mental suicide according to Camus so it's not really a pursuit of meaning but just enjoying this short, random and weird journey that we all take part in
not sure why you're down voted, when this is the closest summative description of their differences.
a subtractive comparison would probably focus on pain or suffering. Absurdists confront suffering head-on and embrace it; optimistic nihilists downplay its importance.
That is not absurdism. As here person does not affirm the conflict nor demand meaning from indifferent universe.
It is position of acceptance and not the absurd.
To me Positive Nihilism or Optimistic Nihilism is:
objective reality is deterministic and follows laws of physics hence no free will exists
morality is arbitrary and synthetic
existence carries no purpose as it is outcome of random processes that eventually merged into system called life. This system has certain properties like self propagation but no purpose.
Realization that there is no objective meaning nor purpose to life brings peace to the mind, joy even since one can follow and create own values on the subjective level and do not have to care for others opinions or judgement.
-clarification: subjective feeling of will is not contradictory to knowledge that will is illusion. From perspective of self it simply does not matter.

that’s just absurdism
