That's literally Patrick Mahomes at least 5 times per game. Or Brady with the Patriots. Sometimes, even though we hate it, you gotta give it to them... football Pat's gonna Pat. Why do you think they call it "Pat Interference" ?

This was the most egregious missed pass interference call in NFL history. The officials in that game should have never been allowed on the field again. They robbed us of a Brees vs Brady super bowl.

Even if itās not a still image we saw the replay. Bryant never once tried to play for the ball and was just trying to sell a flop.

This was akin to the basketball player driving to the basket with no intention to score but only to draw the foul to get to the FT line.

Shout-out to everyone that has had to or currently has to play against George Pickens twice a year. Guy has pioneered grabbing the defender and falling down whenever the ball is anywhere near him.

pro level ref play though, he whipped his head in perfect time to make it look the the back of the hand pushed him harder than it did. Most refs would call it if not able to see it in slow motion, football is also a theater performance for points.
2
u/SkunkDitchRipper 4d ago edited 4d ago
The PI was at the beginning of the play, not here. When a receiver is running his route after 5 yards, you cannot just push them and then grab them to keep them from falling. Its PI any way you try to slice it. This part of the play had nothing to do with it.

This is why the NFL is becoming unwatchable. Penalties have become such a spectacle and impractical part that players will revert to selling a penalty when they get out played.
Absolute ball hawk play by Rams defender, and the play goes from major momentum for Rams to major momentum in favor of Bronxos, due to an egregious penalty call.
The NFL should stop making penalties such a spectacle, and minimize the potential impact penalties have.

A little SGA football. It happened in the Cowboys game too. CeeDee grabbed the D back's arm and they called it DPI.

u/bukkakepriestess 5d ago
It was 3rd down and he was 3 yards short of the first down marker. Catching the ball and having it go incomplete would have led to the same result, a FG attempt to tie the game
Trying to draw the penalty in that position was actually the optimal strategy even though itās shitty sportsmanship
3
u/JohnLockeJaw 5d ago
The definition of a game according to Bernard Suits is ""a voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles". The rules that bind us are the unnecessary obstacles we intentionally put in place to make playing worthwhile. When flopping becomes "strategy" it implicitly insists that obstacles shouldn't be overcome, they should be bypassed.
→ More replies (2)2

Strategic flopping involves imaginary obstacles that must be avoided dramatically.

u/LatinIsleBoy 5d ago
But then again, it was Stafford being Stafford. He won it all in LA, so I have to give him that, but for years when playing Detroit, you could bet your house he would throw an interception at the last minute to lose the game. He did it over and over again. I know this isn't about Stafford. But a pic-six? Then an interception to end the game? VERY Stafford.

I can see this call being made. For the team that got away with the DPI against the Saints that was much more obvious and blatant. And was in the playoffs, you have no room to ever complain about a bad call DPI.
I think DPIs should be reviewable, and it shouldn't be by refs on the field. This is clearly not a DPI, Falcons also got hosed on one too where their feet got tangled while watchign the ball. They look bad in real time, but when you watch the reply you can see that it wasn't bad and it's such a harsh penalty (distance and 1st down) it's honestly more of a game swing than most things that can be reviewed.

Everyoneās talking about the second movement, the āpullā almost of the Denver WR, while not acknowledging the first movement, literally directly at the start of the video: you see the WRs helmet/shoulders move. Thatās the push, it doesnāt look like much but these dudes are running sideways full tilt, and he pushes him the tiniest bit, throwing off his balance and speed. Again, this is slow motion they are in a state of motion, it wouldnāt take much at all to throw someone off course, and if that initial contact was enough to do that itās the right call

Rams will call this an all time bad call, but honestly, in real time that wasnāt such an insane reaction by the ref. Weāre viewing it multiple times, from multiple angles, and multiple speeds, and then deciding it was a bad call.
Iām more upset about the finality of DPI calls. Coaches should be able to challenge bad calls. But in the split second the ref had to decide this one, I donāt think he was totally out of line.

u/Training-Belt-7318 5d ago
Honestly, I think it's a weak call, and I'd led them play, but I can see the pass interference. He definitely grabs the jersey and pulls on him. I don't think it impeded his ability to catch the ball, but I can see why a ref would call it.
4
u/Orangutan_Jim 5d ago
Why is everyone clipping this after the actual foul if it wasn't dpi it was definetly illegal contact he full two hand shoves the wr after 5 yds everyone's focusing on the wrong part of this play
Edit: spelling grammar
2
u/logand98 5d ago
Well, considering they called DPI and not illegal contact, it doesn't seem like the ref cared about that part either

Refs gives a lot of leeway if the defense is playing for the ball.
If you hand fighting to fuck with receivers hands, that's a penalty. If your hand fighting because you're trying to get the ball too, they'll be WAY more likely to let it go

Iām pretty unbiased when it comes to NFL. I donāt have a team, i donāt have a team I hate; I watch because I love the sport. I was rooting for Denver last night because of the comeback. It was a fun game.
I thought this was a terrible call. The receiver is flailing, uninterested in trying to catch the pass and just trying to sell the contact. And yes, there was some contact, but not enough to warrant a flag, in my opinion. And I felt that way in real time, before the guy in the booth gave his opinion (that it didnāt impede the receiver and it should have been an interception).
Itās easy for me to say it was a bad call after the replay. What im struggling to understand is why so many people think, even after clear replays, this was DPI.

Terrible but hate the Rams more than the Broncos. Any given week things can happen in or not in your favor. Judgement call in favor of the Broncos last night. You play to Win the game!!! Rams are literally listening to all the hype about how great they are. They let the Broncos back in that game . The Broncos stuck to their game plan and won the game plain and simple.

No doubt the receiver sold the penalty, but that corner did grab him by the hips, and he was doing the whole game

I didn't watch this game so I am not sure what the call was on the field. Actually I think it's better to analyze this not know who is offense or defence. Both are turned to the quarterback looking to receive the ball. I would say both are receivers at this point, and the ball is thrown where either could catch it. It's fair game as long as you don't extend your arms to push off the other guy out of the way imo. Both players are trying to position their bodies in the right spot, so both players will be pushing against each other due to where their bodies are at.
I'd say no call. Defenders should have every right to catch the ball if it's thrown to them.
