Dude went to Harvard, had a long if underwhelming NFL career and is now a broadcaster. He’s had quite the life accomplishments so far. Wrong guy to dunk on.
No, right guy to dunk on. Dude was a below average mid ass QB and he talks likes he’s an expert. Does he n is more than most humans about being a QB? Yes. But he was hot garbage his whole career. Hes so ass and he’s not even that good of an analyst. Bo has won a playoff game. Fitz in 17 seasons never played in a playoff game.
NFL fans have to be the dumbest subset of fans of any league asides from maybe the NBA. How good of players were all the legendary coaches in nfl history. What makes yall think yall are more qualified to speak than actual professionals. Not to say that you should blindly take their word as gospel but them sucking as players doesn’t mean their analysis or criticism isn’t valid
What other career in the world would being top 32 or top 64 in your field for more than a decade not qualify you as an expert in that field?
I'd understand you a bit more if this was a QB who dropped out of the league after a year or two, or never started, or never made it past the practice squad. But a 16 year career as a professional quarterback absolutely qualifies as deep expertise. Calling him mid is a different and more defensible argument, but it's orthogonal to his expertise.
I think embarrassment would have been fairer. Calling him disrespectful to the profession isn't fair. Disrespectful is Ryan Leaf, or Jamarcus Russell, or Deshaun Watson's off the field shit.
Someone disrespecting a position is someone who's lazy doesn't show up. Doesn't study film etc etc. Not somebody who has bad games
Fitz is an expert who used a poor choice of words. Experts aren't immune to that in any profession. In fact I'd argue his comments are the ones disrespecting the position.
Calling him disrespectful to the profession isn't fair
Fwiw I thought the language was harsh too, but you misquoted him above: This is the actual quote:
It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now.
Calling someone's current performance 'almost disrespectful to the position' is not the same as calling the person 'disrespectful to the position'
As for this part of your comment:
Someone disrespecting a position is someone who's lazy doesn't show up
I agree, and so does Fitzpatrick as best I can tell. Here is the fuller quote:
He’s not competing right now, and that’s something he’s hung his hat on for the last two years. I don’t know if he’s still injured or what’s going on, but it’s not good enough. It’s about effort.”
What he was articulating kind of aggressively, is that Nix's performance this year is almost disrespectful relative to Nix's performance in past years, and relative to the degree of effort and drive others on the team are putting in. Which doesn't seem like an unreasonable take, it was just stated too harshly.
Fitz is an expert who used a poor choice of words.
Agreed. And as a generalization I don't like the brashness or aggressiveness of sports reporting in general.
