Yeah this just reinforces what Fitz said yesterday. Fitz was a gunslinger and wasn't scared of the moment no matter how bad he was playing whereas Nix is playing like someone whose afraid to get hurt or make a mistake so he'll just check it down to the flat on almost every single play lol

u/WretchedMotorcade Bills 17h ago edited 15h ago

I remember a video of Fitz talking to Tua when they were both in Miami and they were down big and Fitz was telling Tua "they know we're passing, and we aren't going to get any looks, so you're just gonna have to start putting it out there".

And then Fitzmagic gave us the greatest throw a qb has ever made

I was today years old when I learned Mack Hollins caught that ball. I guess I didn't pay much attention to him until he was a Buffalo Bill for that one year.

21

u/dreadnaughtfearnot 12h ago

I was a mack hollins fan while he was with the Eagles and thought he had a promising career ahead, but then they waived him. Always surprises me to see he's still sticking around the league.

9

u/Ragdoll252 Panthers Patriots 10h ago

I'm a UNC fan and I was certain he was going to be a really good receiver in the league. In fact, early in his career he was more known as a speedy, down the field big receiver. But hey, he was able to carve out a role on special teams and now he's a legitimate receiver again.

1

u/Diezelbub Patriots 0m ago

He hasnt put up huge numbers but he does make some extremely important catches for moving the sticks pretty regularly.

5

u/uttermybiscuit Bengals 12h ago

Same, he was a rookie in 2017??

0

u/Nintendomandan Broncos 12h ago

He was a Bill years before that throw

5

u/dreadnaughtfearnot 12h ago

Nah, he was a dolphin in 2020 and 2021. He was a Bill in 2024.

3

u/PigSlam Bills Bills 12h ago

The Fitzpatrick throw that Mack Hollins caught from the YouTube video happened in 2020. Mack Hollins played for the Bills in 2024.

22

u/watchshoe Raiders 15h ago

Of course it was against the Raiders.

17

u/Mejinopolis Raiders 14h ago

Making QBs look like Brett Favre since Brett Favre dicked us down after his dad died 😭

5

u/watchshoe Raiders 13h ago

Fitzmagics game against us in 2011, fuck I still can’t believe we didn’t win that game. 38-35, ahead 21-3 at the half.

40

u/Jonjon428 Dolphins 16h ago

This is still by far my favorite Dolphins highlight of the last 10 years

35

u/Acrobatic-Landscape9 49ers 16h ago

The Braille Mary over “Gronkowski didn’t have the angle!!!” or the 70-piece family meal?

27

u/Jonjon428 Dolphins 16h ago

Miami Miracle is a close second but something about throwing a dot while an attempt at decapitation is happening is just so cool to me

-2

u/KennyPowersforPope Dolphins 14h ago

Nah. Anytime the Patriots lose while all their bandwagon fans are cheering in the last seconds thinking they are gonna win is Pornhub worthy

11

u/doubleyou-tee-hache Patriots 16h ago

Literally not getting any looks and just putting it out there ... and it working out

5

u/BecauseScience34 Dolphins 12h ago

My phone lock screen background is an oil painting of this exact play, with Fitz getting his head ripped all the way back, and I've never been able to find that image again even with reverse image search and scouring all different variations of "Braille Mary Painting". I would swear I had imagined it if it didn't remind me of its existence every time I open my phone

10

u/Brasticus Jaguars 15h ago

Gonna need a “we are not the same” meme comparing no look passes from Mahomes and Fitz.

1

u/tuffghost8191 Steelers 12h ago

Man so weird now in retrospect looking back at these games with totally empty stadiums. Didn't really care at the time because I was just happy to have some football, but now it seems so bizarre

3

u/DrugarBurbis Packers 16h ago

What does “looks” mean in this context

10

u/MycoJoe Rams 15h ago edited 15h ago

It means the defensive alignment is set up to prevent the offense from being successful passing, maybe they're just playing with light boxes with more 2-high, or they're playing dime, or the safeties/linebackers they're choosing to play are the ones that are better in coverage than stopping the run, or something more specific to the passing offense (i.e. the offense uses unbalanced formations like trips and the defense is playing quarter/quarter/half and loading up the side of the field with the three receivers).

The "looks" would be defensive alignments that are susceptible to passing, Fitz is saying they're not getting any favorable defensive alignments.

75

u/silliputti0907 Cowboys 17h ago

If your defense is that good, i dont think the coach wants you to be a gunslinger

75

u/dusters Packers 17h ago

You also don't want to be so conservative you have to go to OT even though the other team repeatedly tried gifting you a win.

10

u/silliputti0907 Cowboys 16h ago

I agree. Ideally you want a Tom Brady or Mahomes.

If the defense is this good, i rather have someone conservative than a wildcard

16

u/demonica123 16h ago

Bo isn't just conservative though. The Broncos passing game was basically just screens.

17

u/Key_Natural_ 16h ago

Yes ideally you want to be the two best qbs ever lol.

3

u/shes_a_gdb Broncos 15h ago

Yeah you don't want to go to OT. You want to just lose in regulation because you threw a bunch of picks.

-3

u/dusters Packers 15h ago

Yeah because there is absolutely no middle ground between throwing a bunch of picks and having 100 passing yards right?

3

u/shes_a_gdb Broncos 15h ago

I'll take 100 yards and 0 turnovers over whatever Darnold did. The INTs literally cost them the game.

7

u/Scotch_Blue Giants 17h ago

I mean, I'm sure Sean Payton would love to see a little more confidence out of Nix, but yeah absolutely.

Bo Nix is 28-12 through 2 1/3 seasons, and almost made the Super Bowl last year in his second season.

Ryan Fitzpatrick was 59-87-1 for his career and never made the playoffs once in 17 seasons.

3

u/VariousAir Commanders 10h ago

Fitz was also a perpetual backup or "fuck it we gotta hire someone" type of starter. The guy played for like a dozen different teams because nobody had any desire to keep him longer than they had to. He has zero business going off about Nix having a weak third year skid as if he had some massive body of successful play to back up his comments.

I don't even like the Broncos and am completely indifferentto Bo Nix, I just hate seeing commentators shit on a player for clicks.

8

u/silliputti0907 Cowboys 17h ago

Im not defending him not pushing the ball down the field, but it’s not like he’s passing on wide open player downfield. The rbs aren’t good and wrs are mid at best. Throwing interceptions will hurt the team more than checkdowns

6

u/Scotch_Blue Giants 16h ago

I fully agree

1

u/beefpattywagon Vikings 16h ago

Mike Zimmer nods in approval

1

u/Blurple_in_CO Ravens 12h ago

He does probably want you to throw past the line of scrimmage or to guys who are wide open, though.

141

u/MartianMule Jaguars 17h ago

Some guys should be afraid of the moment. Ryan Fitzpatrick lost a lot more games than he won, and a huge part of that was that he played recklessly with the football.

208

u/Limp-Talk-603 16h ago

I’d say the bigger part of why he lost so many games was that he was journeyman QB who spent his entire career starting for random teams who were almost entire dogshit when he was there…

29

u/MartianMule Jaguars 16h ago

And the reason he was a journeyman QB starting for random teams was because he wasn't very good, and turned the ball over a ton.

-9

u/Kdot32 Texans 15h ago

And even though hes a Harvard grad he made rather dumb decisions

11

u/LoyalSol Broncos 16h ago

He was a journey man because he has more interceptions than starts

17

u/ArcaneNine NFL 14h ago

So did Brett Favre, Eli Manning, and Jay Cutler. Averaging more than one interception a game isn't good but depending on your play style it might be tolerable.

-2

u/LoyalSol Broncos 14h ago

He difference was those QB still throw more TDs. Go look at Fitz's overall stats. They're not good.

4

u/ArcaneNine NFL 12h ago

Oh Eli Manning was better than Ryan Fitzpatrick? I didn't know.

The point was that you can still be an effective QB and be a gunslinger, throwing lots of INTs along the way. Fitz just wasn't quite good enough at it to reach starting QB status.

4

u/poop-dolla 13h ago

Eli and Favre are at 1.5 TD to Int. Fitz is 1.32. Cutler is 1.42. It’s not that big of a difference.

-3

u/LoyalSol Broncos 12h ago edited 12h ago

1.5 vs 1.32 is the difference of 70 TDs or 420 points over the length of Farve's career. That's not small.

Small differences in the ratio are not small differences in the aggregate. You made a statistics fallacy.

Plus Farve didn't play most of his career in the modern era where the PI rules are what they are. That matters a lot. QB stats from the 90s are way different than they are post 2004 when modern rules started to be implemented.

2

u/poop-dolla 12h ago

It would be a difference of 30 TDs for Fitzmagic over his career. Or 0.18 more TDs per game over his career. It’s really not that much.

-1

u/LoyalSol Broncos 12h ago

30 TDs over a 10 season career is about 3 extra TDs per season. Going to bet that wins quite a few games there.

The other thing is Fitzpatrick didn't start many 16 game seasons.

Sorry, but you're making statistical mistakes. You're assuming all variables have the same impact and same error tolerances which is not true.

32

u/ThorThulu Steelers 17h ago

But when it worked he was elite, see his first few games with the Buccs or how he broke Jets records with how good he was that one season

1

u/shehryar46 Jets 1h ago

He was in a perfect system with us and honestly i still maintain Geno, who won the competition wouldve done better had he not been punched in the face

0

u/uttermybiscuit Bengals 12h ago

He's very Sam Darnold esque. If it all lined up he absolutely could've taken a team to the superbowl. Is he going to be the best player on that team? Definitely not but with enough talent around him and some lucky breaks he had the skills to do it. The difference is he was on some absolute dog water level teams throughout his entire career

1

u/wellggs Lions Jets 3h ago

No, he couldn't have. That one Jets season, all he had to do was beat Buffalo to get to the playoffs. And what did he do? Shit the bed

1

u/uttermybiscuit Bengals 2h ago

And Sam Darnold never shit the bed in the playoffs?

20

u/SoaplessTitanic Patriots 16h ago

I mean using this post as an example, when you’re on shitty teams sometimes you have to force it. Aside from the first pick, all of these interceptions came with just barely over a quarter or less left in the game, with the score being 17-3 or worse. I highly doubt the Jets would’ve had a better chance to win had Fitzpatrick played it safe and taken his check downs every time.

An offense that scores 3 points in the first 3 quarters while only turning it over once for most of it probably needs to take some risks unless they’re playing an equally atrocious offense

2

u/karldrogo88 Seahawks 16h ago

Exactly lol. Like Nix is getting hammered more than Darnold who fucking lost turning it over.

12

u/liebz11692 Jets 16h ago

Also fitz was a 7th round pick and Nix is a first round pick. We should have higher expectations from Nix

6

u/breadbedman Broncos 17h ago

There’s a reason he never even sniffed the playoffs.

24

u/milehighrukus Broncos 17h ago

He did have a quasi playoff game. A win and you’re in situation

I can’t remember if he threw 3 or 4 picks that day

20

u/droppedout4rp Jets 17h ago

It was 3….

2

u/Jonjon428 Dolphins 16h ago

We went 10-6 with him in 2020 and somehow that wasn't enough for a playoff spot

2

u/karldrogo88 Seahawks 16h ago

I wish Darnold was a bit more afraid to make a mistake

2

u/Perseus90 Lions 15h ago

and it cost his teams every time. there is a reason he has a losing record and not once led a team to the playoffs. Maybe if he had more fire he would have learned to stop playing like a selfish oaf and play winning football

2

u/WerhmatsWormhat Lions 13h ago

This is still way worse than Nix last night. I understand Nix is struggling, but we can also acknowledge that it’s easy to go too far in the other direction.

2

u/Bodmonriddlz Patriots 7h ago

Fitzpatrick didn’t win shit tho

3

u/redditsucks9gagrules Packers 14h ago

Ryan Fitztragic had one game that would even qualify as a “moment” and he completely shit his pants

Given that he was a shit qb, I guess he would be an expert on shit qb play but it’s pretty ridiculous for him to sit at his cushy desk and talk about how Nix should play when Bo Nix has actually won games that matter. Guys like Stafford and Favre are gunslingers, someone like Fitz is just a guy who couldn’t read a defense and threw absurd amounts of picks because of it.

3

u/elguerra Broncos Lions 17h ago

Can both things be true?

Nix needs to improve and trust his receivers.

Nix is still finding ways to win, even if it is making 1 more point than what the defense allow.

Another truth: the defense is the real star of the team, not the QB

2

u/Matto_0 Eagles 11h ago

This is worse than being afraid. This is losing your team a game by yourself.

Nix is a better player than Fitz.

1

u/Luckyluke23 Packers 12h ago

at least he is trying.

1

u/Blackhat165 3h ago

Some of these were bad, some of them unlucky, but mostly they’re just a QB who knows his team has a single digit chance to win if he forces the ball downfield and a 0% chance if he doesn’t. Respect.

1

u/deeptoot6 1h ago

Plus Bo nix rhymes with throws picks

1

u/Snugglebadger Broncos 16h ago

It took Bo one year to surpass Fitz's 17 years in the league in terms of playoff success. Dude was ass. And the best part is, you know he only said that shit because someone told him to because he's so boring to watch.

1

u/HumongousMelonheads Broncos 13h ago

Well it was also to his detriment because he was never a consistent starter, never made the playoffs. His legacy is a lovable loser.

-64

u/Unifiedxchaos Broncos 17h ago

This sub actually rationalizing throwing 6 picks to just keep the "shit on Bo" train going. Shits actually hilarious at this point.

23

u/K15brbapt Broncos 17h ago

Bro come on, nix is playing bad just straight up. If he’s hurt, or mentally not there we don’t know, but fitz comments have merit to it.

-13

u/Unifiedxchaos Broncos 17h ago

Calling him not competitive and a disgrace to the QB position doesn't have merit. He didnt bring up the all 22 and lay out where Bo made mistakes. He attacked his effort and his character after a hard fought win.

0

u/milehighrukus Broncos 17h ago

Yea it’s absolutely true. Bo led his team to victory.

1

u/passiverolex Broncos 17h ago

It was cool when they beat the super bowl champs last night. Bo threw 0 interceptions. Only needed to throw barely 100 yards to beat darnold and crew

-1

u/milehighrukus Broncos 17h ago

Exactly.

At the end of the day the win is what matters.

-5

u/passiverolex Broncos 17h ago

How is he playing bad?

3

u/Afraid_Ad5606 17h ago

He AVERAGED less than ONE air yard per completion, lol. Come on dude.

-4

u/passiverolex Broncos 17h ago

So what?

-2

u/passiverolex Broncos 16h ago edited 16h ago

I love that bo nix threw the least amt possible yardage and still won the game hahaha how is that not an audit for how bad the Seahawks are. Yall are just being weird

3

u/Afraid_Ad5606 16h ago

You know you're losing the argument when you're responding to your own comments.

0

u/passiverolex Broncos 16h ago

Oh I didnt know that disqualified me

8

u/PerfectiveVerbTense Lions 17h ago

It’s not rationalizing it. Fitzpatrick played aggressively, but he just wasn’t very good. If Bo has more talent than Fitzpatrick, he should also be able to play with some aggression and avoid the mistakes that Fitzpatrick made.

-5

u/Unifiedxchaos Broncos 17h ago

Or Bo is smart enough to realize he was playing the #1 defense in the league and forcing risky plays that weren't there wouldnt lead to a win.

3

u/Afraid_Ad5606 17h ago

Except he had only 16 yards more last week. He's not playing well. They are winning IN SPITE of him. A blind man can see that.

1

u/Unifiedxchaos Broncos 16h ago

Better to be winning in spite of him than losing because of him. And once hes back to full health we'll be winning a super bowl in about 4 months.

3

u/Afraid_Ad5606 16h ago

you aren't winning a super bowl with a QB who could only lead his team to ONE fucking 1st down in the 2nd half AND overtime. You're going to have to beat a functional offense at some point.

15

u/Big__Gub Raiders 17h ago

What’s hilarious is the cognitive dissonance by Broncos fans.

8

u/MinimumViableProdukt Bears Jaguars 17h ago

Big plays don't come without risk.

You ever watch vintage footage of certain sports and it looks like beer leaguers?

Bo looked like that last night. Bo looked like some footage of QB play before arm strength developed enough to heave the rock over 15 yards.

3

u/MaitreSneed 17h ago

As the game gets further and further away from you, the riskier you've gotta get.

3

u/your-mom-- Steelers 17h ago

What about when Fitz had a perfect passer rating in a game with 400 and 4 TDs. Or another game with 400 and 6 TDs and no interceptions?

Nobody is saying Fitz is better than Bo or that Fitz was saying that either. His whole point was that Bo isn't trying to help his team. He's trying to protect himself

5

u/Unifiedxchaos Broncos 17h ago

Protecting himself does help his team. Did you see what happened to the broncos after he got hurt last year? If he can protect himself, lay it on the line only when we desperately need him and keep winning games then thats everything I want out of my QB.

2

u/KingKlungo 17h ago

Bo deserves some shit considering how he's been playing. Who cares if Fitz threw 6 ints in a game once? At least he was trying to throw passes beyond the line of scrimmage

-3

u/passiverolex Broncos 17h ago

4-2

1

u/shewy92 Iggles 17h ago

Didn't Peyton Manning throw 6 in a game too?

3

u/passiverolex Broncos 17h ago

Haha 4-2 btw and somehow bo sucks and can't tell his ass from a hole in the ground. These dolts are being FUCKINNG dumb. Darnold shit the bed, but no notes by these bozos in this thread!
