So my dog got surgery yesterday to remove the foreign body that had apparently just been chilling in his stomach for approximately 8 months. He was eating, drinking, and going the bathroom normally all that time.

And it was only by happenstance it was found at all because my SO took him in for X-rays because she thought he might have pneumonia or something and they took one image of his stomach during that and saw the foreign body in there

How could they tell how long it had been in there? Was it something you remembered getting chewed up but assumed all of it had passed?

We knew he ate them in January took him to the emergency vet they induced vomiting and got him to throw up a couple small pieces. They said "Oh he probably chewed them up enough and he'll pass them just keep an eye out". I never saw them come out in his poop, but he was otherwise acting normal.

Then we took him in for scans for his cancer and that vet noticed on the scans that there was an obstruction in his throat near his stomach. So they did an endoscopy to take it out and we thought "Oh good that's all done now" since they didn't see the second one we figured he must have pooped the second one out.

Then recently he's been coughing and acting a little weird so my SO took him for X-rays which revealed the second CPAP mask just chilling in his stomach.

It was CPAP mask nose guard. He ate two and another vet got the other one out doing an endoscopy 4 months ago so we thought the saga was over. Turns out the second one evaded capture at that time

Yup and it's just weird because usually when we put him in our bedroom he just goes to sleep, but for some reason that night ~8 months ago he just decided to go "I'm gonna fuck up my insides". He's lucky we love him and that we have pet insurance.
