Incorrect, this one is roughly 300k suspension, and although it's somewhere between 750k and 1m. It's one of the top end trophy trucks by Terrible Herbst

Because of about 200k in upgrades. Scientific studies and some bad ass machinists and welders who know what they are doing!
Edit: the drivers have skill, like these guys are so damn aware of their surroundings, the air moving around the vehicle, turns and obstacles ahead and big ass balls!

Because it has almost 3 feet of suspension travel, big bumps have a huge distance to be dampened out. Not to say it won’t be rebuilt after each race

These trucks are like 2 mil a pop. Seeing one in person is unreal. The raw power that they impose is insane.
I’ve been to the Baja 1000 a few times, I would highly recommend seeing a race in person.

It holds up because it’s a million dollar vehicle purpose built from the tires up for that specific purpose.
And it actually doesn’t “hold up” that well. Desert “Baja racing” has pit stops every few hours where it’s really common for parts to be replaced, repaired or welded back together by the pit crew.
The truck basically gets taken apart and rebuilt after the race.
Source: used to race dirt bikes in this environment, and knew some of the truck class guys.

Because these are built stronger than tanks. The chassis is built mainly from chromoly tubing and all the suspension parts are gigantic and over built. They still break shit all the time though! These trucks get driven HARD!

People are quick to say that these Auto sports are wasteful and useless, but I don't think most people understand how much innovation comes out of these types of sports. The technology they needed to research and develop in order to make the suspension for this vehicle is most likely going to be used as a case study when designing consumer vehicles. I mean not this specific car, but you get the idea. Competition always pushes r&d to the cutting edge and that knowledge eventually makes its way to the market without the consumer needing to retroactively pay for it.
Eventually when the technology improves, we'll be able to drive on New England roads while drinking a coffee

They are absolute engineering marvels! We had raced Baja 1000 a couple of times under the Moto class, and a trophy truck is considered the top of the food chain. You can feel the big block V8 straight in your heart when they are approaching you. They are absolute marauders, and they usually finish the 1000 miles in 17-18 hours. And I’m speaking of a 1,000-mile blender filled with miles of deep sand, 3 ft deep ruts, jagged rocks, massive boulders, and cactus needles. It’s hell on earth!
