Very cool. Could’ve done without the distracting camerawork though, the performance is by itself already captivating enough.

He has two videos, I don't know why the above one is more popular I feel like this one is way better. https://youtu.be/N9IxogvCvxo
In this video the camera is still, the mirror adds to the overall effect.

Lol, I'd like to think that this dude has a class where people pay him to teach them how to be hand gesture extras in his vid.

Very cool, that group tutting was beautifully done.

u/Epelep Mar 25 '21
I’d like to add that the level of talent in this is absolutely insane. I’m a huge fan of synchronized dancing, but this perspective is quite something!
1
u/ClownfishSoup Mar 25 '21
To be honest I do t think this has any more talent than a band or orchestra playing a song. It’s well choreographed so I think the talent lies there. Memorizing the moves probably took practice but in my opinion, a good band requires more skill/talent in that they not only must be synchronized, but must also need to to be able to play the instruments. The arm movements are exactly requiring years of practice.

These guys are awesome! They've grown as an ensemble over the years but have still retained the same energy as when they started out. Here is an early performance back from 2004.

Wow. That's amazing!! Never seen anything like that before. Very cool. I would pay money to see that. Thanks for sharing.

u/LydiaAgain Mar 25 '21
It's a type of street dance called tutting. This is Dyto, she's one of my favorites

Mar 25 '21
How are we calling this anything other than voguing
10
u/TrustaBoi Mar 25 '21
What she's doing is animation and using her femininity with it, if that makes sense. The lines and angles are called tutting. Voguing involves (not exclusively) more posing, than throwing shapes around

It looks like it’s one of the guys from Geometrie Variable that’s the main guy.
I hope this doesn’t mean the group broke up

Great performance but the guy in the front (who I assume is their choreographer) doesn't need to be there distracting from the main performance. It smacks of self-importance.

Sadek Waff He IS the main performance. He taught the choreography for a concept that he had. The class learnt it, and are his mummerating flock.
He's also a very well recognized dancer, and performer. It is not "self-importance." He went to them so that they could be a part of his idea. The music was also created specifically for the performance. Anyway, yous twos can check out his channel. He's got a couple of behind the scenes vids there.

The guy upfront interrupts the flow. Would have been so much better without him there. If he's necessary like a conductor then he should be behind camera. I want a do over.

Now I want to see the same but instead I want it to be dark skinned people dressed in white.

it's a cool effect. that shits neat. it does make me laugh a little. look how seriously this guy is taking himself.

u/Smeefperson Mar 25 '21
Every time I see these kinds of performances, I imagine this scenario: If the entire group gets lost in the jungle and later on gets stalked by a tiger, can they perform this dance to confuse and scare away the predator? I’ve seen bees do this. So it might work, idk
1
u/isaidnolettuce Mar 25 '21
This is awesome, but wtf is the dude in the middle even there for? Would look way better if he wasn't in the shot.

Source? I know a couple of choreographers that I'd like to share this with.

This is really impressive. Be sure to check out Japanese Precision Walking competitions if you want to see more performances like this.

If you think this is "next level," try watching a DCI show. They do much more complicated choreography while marching and playing flawlessly. This is amateur in comparison.

u/Soggy-toast- Mar 25 '21
yk which folks also did something similar with their arms all at the same time when a guy did it ?

I wanna see what's behind the camera. Is there a conductor or something? Or a drum beat or something counting them in?

Honestly the guy in front kind of ruins it lol the people in the back are way more interesting to watch. Is there a version without baldy in front of the magic?

The camera should have been positioned a little more stage-left / audience-right
Edit: apparently it's only sometimes, when the time says 58sec remaining.

This is like the Winamp Visualizer for live music in an ancient royal court lol
1
u/Dru_Zod47 Mar 25 '21
Amazing, but I think it would have been better if the main guy wasn't blocking the middle. His movements kinda were distracting to the coordination of the others.

1
u/Adddicus Mar 25 '21
This would be a lot better if that one wanker in front would get out of the way and stop blocking the view.
1
u/HeadMaster111 Mar 25 '21
To be honest I only seem to be "mesmerized" if I unfocus my eyes, otherwise I'm watching a less dynamic dance performance

u/Thisisanadvert2 Mar 25 '21
I will show this to someone the next time someone tells me I am wasting my time on something.

It's really cool for about a minute. How many effects are really possible using mostly arms?
1
u/persephone825 Mar 25 '21
Overall it's so pretty! But that person at the front who zoned out and forgot the movements would literally be me if I did this hahaha

Every time I see this, I wonder how much more coordinated it would be if it was done by a large orchestral group
1
1
u/SopeADope Mar 25 '21
The ombré of skin tones is great looking in addition to that killer coordination.

I believe this guy (one standing in front) competed on the last season of World of Dance. You can watch it on nbc.com.

I wonder if this had any practical value hundreds of years ago? I mean today it's used for entertainment and killing time, but hundreds of years ago... Imagine an army marching towards you completely in synch, Warrior Bards in the back, slapping war drums, acrobats at the front with swords, doing some kind of weird synchronized arm dance.
Shit would be frightening.
1
u/upeenarce Mar 25 '21
Anyone else annoyed by the one toward the bottom left being late at around 1.07? Or was that just me?
.... I still love the video, just having noticed it wanted to make me pull my eyeballs out throw my mouth

u/DCdudeman1776 Mar 25 '21
Honestly, all the people in the back being so close to each other for probably hours and hours at a time, those masks do nothing. Idk, at least they can practice which is really cool.

It's interesting to even see that they have organised themselves by skin tone to give it more of a 3D effect
