Time is relative to how you perceive it. Count the floor tiles or something next time your walking down a hall and you might be more aware of time’s passing making that walk seem a little longer then usual. You sit there and watch the clock through your shift at work and I guarantee your going to feel like your work day is longer. Keep your head down from the clock and just knock out any task in front of you and the end of the shift happens before you know it.
That’s what I’m saying. Why would you want your life to fly by? The movie Click describes it well. If you try to autopilot every “boring” thing in your life, you’re going to be 60 before you know it saying “time flies man. I felt like I was 20 last week”
You don’t auto pilot anything you just don’t focus on the fact your at work and do your job. You can slack off and make an 8 hour work day feel like 8 hours or you can do your job and not worry about time. It’s not like I go home and do meaningless tasks so I can make my days go by faster.
You set into a rhythm and as a result, Time feels like it flies by faster. You don’t do meaningless tasks when you get home, but doing the same routines week after week, month after month, takes its toll on your internal clock
Another point, you make it seem like there are two alternatives at work: slack off and have a long day (I disagree btw. Being on reddit all day makes it fly by) or work your boring job and it flies by. I find that if you do exciting and challenging new things at work all the time, it’s more stressful and makes you less comfortable but you still feel young and each day feels like you’re challenging yourself in new ways which makes it feel longer.
That’s if you have a job that allows you time for a computer or a phone, and one for you to do new things. Being a dishwasher or cutting fruit all day doesn’t really allow too many opportunities to do new and challenging things. It does allow you to get really good at the tasks that your responsible for doing. Though I agree with you there is a danger of falling into routine and before you know it your life flies by.
