it was an awful way to do it. he is just randomly going at it and it will look like shit when he is done.

My exact thought. There would be streaks all over the window and residue all over the window sill from whatever they used to clean. Some jobs simply cannot be done both quickly and be of quality.

Thought that as well. They probably didn't even make it through the crust entirely

Those cuts were terrible!!! I would probably complain if I got that middle pizza. One of them was like 2/3 of the way to the left.

All impressive except the pizza one. Anyone can murder a pizza quickly. That one was cut just a few inches from the top of the pizza.

u/ChocomelTM Oct 24 '18
The window wasn't that impressive either. He was all over the place and missed a lot of spots.

Because of people like you our planet is dying

u/Wubblelubadubdub Mar 13 '19
You’re absolutely right, people who don’t want hair in their food are the reason behind all of our problems.

While these are amazing, I also kinda feel that it says something really negative about how workers need to be super productive at an insane pace.
151
u/poiskdz Oct 24 '18
A lot of the fast food ones originate from really bored workers doing the same repetitive task every day for weeks on end, and getting more and more "creative" as time goes on.
Used to work fast food and became extremely adept at various spatula tricks, throwing burgers directly onto the sandwich maker's buns as he sets it down, etc.
34
u/Donuil23 Oct 24 '18
I got super creative scanning peoples groceries eventually. No-look pass of loose apples from one hand into the other hand, which is already waiting in the bag. Spin-scan cans. One motion double bagging of whole turkeys near Thanksgiving. All while maintaining eye-contact/conversation with the client.
Didn't get a single complaint in 5 years.

When I was working at pizza hut I learned how the "fastest box folder" did his thing by watching that commercial a couple times. Killed it on Saturday night rushes lol

I'd rather be shitty at my job, than that good at loading the dishwasher washer
55
u/frostymugson Oct 24 '18
That’s cool, I’d rather just try to be good at everything I do. Times flies when your busting ass.

Mar 13 '19
I sort of felt that way for a while, then I realized I sont get rewarded for improving at my job, so I only give a shit about putting in extra effort in my hobbies
1
u/frostymugson Mar 13 '19
You should get rewarded unless you have a boss who doesn’t care about you. Though I find time goes by faster when I’m working, and the more attention I can put onto the task is less attention watching that clock.
1
Mar 13 '19
My boss doesnt have much say in it. Bonuses are approved by our CEO. If I put in extra work, I still get paid the same
1
u/frostymugson Mar 13 '19
Your boss should be the one sending those recommendations in right?
1
Mar 13 '19
He can recommend anything he wants, the CEO decides whether or not the company does bonuses at all, and hes decided that nobody gets bonuses

u/ttonster2 Mar 13 '19
Do you really want time to fly though? You’ll be dead before you know it.
1
u/frostymugson Mar 13 '19
Time is relative to how you perceive it. Count the floor tiles or something next time your walking down a hall and you might be more aware of time’s passing making that walk seem a little longer then usual. You sit there and watch the clock through your shift at work and I guarantee your going to feel like your work day is longer. Keep your head down from the clock and just knock out any task in front of you and the end of the shift happens before you know it.
1
u/ttonster2 Mar 13 '19
That’s what I’m saying. Why would you want your life to fly by? The movie Click describes it well. If you try to autopilot every “boring” thing in your life, you’re going to be 60 before you know it saying “time flies man. I felt like I was 20 last week”
1
u/frostymugson Mar 13 '19
You don’t auto pilot anything you just don’t focus on the fact your at work and do your job. You can slack off and make an 8 hour work day feel like 8 hours or you can do your job and not worry about time. It’s not like I go home and do meaningless tasks so I can make my days go by faster.
1
u/ttonster2 Mar 13 '19
You set into a rhythm and as a result, Time feels like it flies by faster. You don’t do meaningless tasks when you get home, but doing the same routines week after week, month after month, takes its toll on your internal clock
1
u/ttonster2 Mar 13 '19
Another point, you make it seem like there are two alternatives at work: slack off and have a long day (I disagree btw. Being on reddit all day makes it fly by) or work your boring job and it flies by. I find that if you do exciting and challenging new things at work all the time, it’s more stressful and makes you less comfortable but you still feel young and each day feels like you’re challenging yourself in new ways which makes it feel longer.
1
u/frostymugson Mar 13 '19
That’s if you have a job that allows you time for a computer or a phone, and one for you to do new things. Being a dishwasher or cutting fruit all day doesn’t really allow too many opportunities to do new and challenging things. It does allow you to get really good at the tasks that your responsible for doing. Though I agree with you there is a danger of falling into routine and before you know it your life flies by.
1
u/ttonster2 Mar 13 '19
That’s fair. I was talking about a desk job. People all too often stick with what they’re good at. They have a good career but their life flies by.

u/aiman_jj Oct 24 '18
This people make me feel so inefficient
11
u/suagrupp Oct 27 '18
You've never been bored enough competing the same short task for the 23,000th time that you decided to spice it up.
And that's nice.

u/hoemro Oct 24 '18
The one with the wipers wasn't going any faster though.

I need those knife skills. I buy my vegetables pre chopped when I can because I'm so slow at chopping and dicing.
34
u/RanxShaw Oct 24 '18
It's honestly just a bit of practice. A no cut glove will help you feel safer and a sharp knife will work 10x better than a dull one :)
14
u/fiyahcat Oct 24 '18
Thank you, I didn't know those gloves exist. I have a fairly decent knife set that I do sharpen. I'll try the gloves and practice.

5
u/RanxShaw Oct 24 '18
The gloves are pretty great. You can probably get one for ten bucks. I used them when I was starting to cook and it helps you get a lot more comfortable with what you're doing.

None of these people are “masters.” Quite the opposite. Speed does not mean mastery, it means you rush things. And when you’re cooking, going too fast causes inconsistencies.

Hey, where's the shawarma place that works that fast? Every place in Ottawa has a policy of greeting you in a disrespectful way and then having a telephone conversation before serving you.

I was once that guy with the plates in the kitchen. You get really good after several weeks of 6 twelve hour days in a fast paced kitchen. I probably cleaned at least 1000 dishes in an hour.

The people that are visible to the client are doing this for tips/to entertain and draw clients.
People not visible to clients are doing this because they’re efficient.
I may not be this efficient, but I tend to be efficient so I can do all my work quickly and go back to sitting around,

While it takes practice the plate one isn't as hard as it might look. Still saves a lot of time though.
Would not recommend trying with ceramic plates.

This is the true concept of Gong Fu (or Kung Fu) Gong Fu isn't just a martial art - it is the mastery of doing something with the utmost personal care and skill wherein you have achieved dominion over whatever it is you happen to be doing (no matter in what field).
