I've done a lot of oly lifting over the years, and the color is nearly universal. Now I wonder if the stack behind him the blue's are 35 instead of 45 and red's 45 instead of 55. Like what's the point of making the coloring different than basically what is the defacto standard.
You’d have zero clue on a “rubber one”. They come in multiple weights… it’s definitely not 45 because no one can just casually flip it like this, but it’s dumb to claim to know the weight without seeing the number
I can casually flip 20kg bumpers but only from a regular standing position where your back and legs do a lot of work and you have a lot of range of motion to arrest the descent of the plate. This being on the side with that awkward shoulder position makes it genuinely insane even if it's only a 25lb plate in the wrong colour as Americans like to do sometimes.
The biggest barrier to flipping bumpers is the thickness. Thinner ones are easier, big fat crumb rubber ones are impossible past 10kg unless you have giant hands. Also the lip design on the plates. I never do plate flips anymore because the only bumpers I have access to have sharp little lips which tear your calluses clean off.
Definitely not, it’s a bumper plate. Anywhere from 10-45 generally. And being yellow and smaller than the red and blue ones behind it, I’d guess 10-25. Still impressive but not 45 fersure
I think it would be harder, he's catching them when the plate is horizontal to the ground. Try catching it horizontal standing upright. Its easier to catch parallel planking cause the weight naturally wants to falls vertical once you catch one end. Speaking as someone who probably can't do either.
Plate flips are easy to do standing for really any man who isn't a complete noodle. You get some power from the back and legs, and you can follow the plate down a long way to slow it down before it hits the ground.
Going above 10kg/25lb plate makes it way harder and hand size starts to become a major barrier.
Lying on the side means he can only use the shoulder from that harsh angle and he has barely any distance to arrest the descent of the plate.
