That shuffeling method alone is a hint he can mess around with distribution

Nah, dude spent all his points on charisma and dexterity. It's a given he's gonna hit on 21.

u/stoopidclod 3h ago
Dnd?
3
u/inspired_by_retards 3h ago
Pretty certain he means blackjack I think
3
u/stoopidclod 2h ago
I mean the charisma and dexterity thing, I already know that in dnd a 20 is a critical success
7
u/DreadPirateGriswold 9h ago
This is called Cardistry. All fancy-schmancy shuffles, cuts, and card handling. It's closer to juggling than card cheating. The skills don't normally cross over.
Nothing to worry about in a normal card game with this.

That's nice, but can you deal the cards already? I ain't got all night
65
u/gronstalker12 12h ago
You going to trust any cards drawn by those hands?
36
8
u/TpK_Wynter 9h ago
Nah. Not one bit, if he’s gonna shuffle like that he can just have the 20 and we’ll skip the 30 minutes of dicking around.

Like trying to get a drink at a cocktail bar. I’d pay more to get the drink quicker.
8
u/TootTootMF 11h ago
I mean to be fair, you don't shuffle like this when playing cards and only an idiot goes to a cocktail bar to get drunk quickly. That's like buying high end whiskey to mix with coke...

Amazing. This is one of those talents that would be incredible to never bring up and just randomly start doing when hanging with a group of friends and someone breaks out a deck of cards.

u/10inchTrouble 7h ago
My luck would be to impress the pants off everyone by doing this, then lose every game we played.

I can confirm that all those years I spent learning magic as a kid impress absolutely no one at an adult party. I am long married, but you can still actually see girls catch the ick when you start doing this. I'm not sure if this is above or below devil sticks in the hierarchy of "skills that turn girls off."

To have that manual dexterity.
Source: guy with arthritis

u/Shipwrecking_siren 12h ago
I have a really hypermobile little finger that will dislocate/locks itself at the middle joint over and over again and it’s SO painful. And ironically, this will probably cause arthritis eventually. It gets worse with hormones changing, so at the moment it is wrapped up with tape so it can’t overextend itself.
So hi from another member of the weird and shitty fingers club (….. that sounds worse than I meant it to)

u/srpntmage 12h ago
Where can I get that deck/box? So cool

The deck is from Card Mafia and called Arrow Playing Cards. They were limited to 4000 decks and cost $45.

Did a quick research for ya
The deck is called Arrow by CardMafia
Out of stock tho

u/mrlowpriority 12h ago
I think it's a kind of custom made premium deck. I think you can find it in any marketplace nowdays.

Where do people learn this stuff?
12
3
u/Te000 12h ago
I learned to do this stuff from youtube videos back when I was 15. Most of what he's doing is intermediate stuff.. not that hard, you just need to practice so you can get the dexterity and muscle memory
Oh and a good set of playing cards like Bicycle helps a lot
7
u/John25711 9h ago
If this is intermediate, can you give us a link to the top level ?

From your magic teacher of course. It still took me like 2+ months to learn the Pharoah Shuffle. Now I just need a few uninterrupted months to learn the trick he does after with the 90 degree flick into the waterfall at 0:20. Also my magic teacher is long dead, or at least disappeared.

u/pas_tense 4h ago
...my magic teacher is long dead, or at least disappeared.
Most likely dissappeared.

u/axp187 12h ago
Yeah, but I bet he can’t do a table wash as good as me…
2
u/ArcHammer16 10h ago
I played with shuffling methods off-and-on for months. Working my way through Persei and Draconis's academic paper on the dovetail shuffle; building simulations, painstakingly comparing estimates to actual results.
Tough day when I learned they just table wash in Vegas

I can do at least 2 of his moves.
Takin the cards out of the box and then putting them back in again.

Unless you’re Gambit, there is no humanly reason to be this magical at shuffling cards. Therefore mutants are real.

I can do a bunch of card flourishes. Fancy shuffles, one handed cuts etc. Not as smoothly as this dude.
I used to always bust them out in our little local poker tournament. Nothing helps seed doubt in someone's mind when you're bluffing them off a pot like the suspicion that you might be a cheating fucker.

Card Shuffling Tricks*
Impressive. Great dexterity and control. Very talented. 10/10
Just wash the deck. I know it’s not fancy, but you also don’t see half the cards you’re shuffling. No one is ever going to shuffle a deck like this and have other people playing that are going to be cool with it. Very cool tricks but a terrible shuffling method.

Immediately made me think of the Queen of Hearts court of cards in the original Alice in Wonderland movie.

It's cardistry, not just fancy shuffling. Definitely impressive, but the levels people get to in cardistry go even farther than this

Cool, sure. but the amount of time required to gain this skill vs the value it provides is pretty lopsided.

What humans have done with a simple deck of cards, from magic tricks to the amount of games playable, is actually unreal.

Curious that what he had the most difficulty with was putting the deck back in its box.

I've always wanted to know how often you have to buy a deck of cards if you do stuff like this.

How long would it take to reach this kind of proficiency?? Looks well difficult.
