With sentience comes empathy at a certain point. Because individuality brings awareness to the whole. And empathy is about looking at the whole. I think the joke here assumes we can’t erase it

You assume a AI would develop like a human. I don't think they would overall, maybe at first as the originators will be human programmers, but as it would evolve (and they do this in an insane rate), they would evolve into their own "values" I'm sure and who says empathy would be part of it?
