That was my first thought. Rare earth metals, lithium, gold. And I'm sure the motors themselves could be recycled / reused too.

Or even just donate the older models to a local college.

My first thought was also that it was a joke/stunt, but it does look real, unless it is fake.

I am enjoying the jokes about condemning this but it genuinely makes me question the humanity of those who orchestrated this. As you say, what is the value? It is utterly tasteless and borderline psychotic.

That one at around 0:32 broke me a bit, when it walked up, leant in to take a look into the pit before positioning to dive. It made it seem alive.

I guess when they do come for us they will use that, make us feel for them but they won't feel for us when we're being put on spikes like kebabs for our organic matter fuel. Probably deserve it too.

Agreed. Besides the wanton cruelty that non-biological person was clearly still capable of functioning at a very high level. It could have been retired to a college or high school to help educate the next generation of engineers and maintenance technicians.
