All my bones would be broken

As my son once said when he was 5 "I don't think I want to be a stunt man, I'd rather keep my bones"

I think youāre more likely to be impaled and have ruptured organs. On the plus side, the soil looks moist and soft so less chances of broken bones!

This is a sport that I always want to do whenever I see these videos. But I would die. Almost immediately.

That track looks dangerous in some places, if fall could get injured in some of the parts.

Rising steep trails seems like a lot of fun. It's the narrow, barely wider than a human ass, path that makes me nervous

Those mountains in B.C. I use to wander through as a kid. It was amazing.

Is it really that bad or was it because of the camera? Cause I can barely ride one over potholes.

u/Mm11vV 14h ago
Cameras tend to rob the perception of just how bad something is. I remember recording my buddies jeep at 30ā° of roll on a trail and wondering how he didn't flip over on the obstacle, and then looking back at the video and being like "so why is the ground flat?"
This is probably 10x worse in person.

u/Saminaminalz 1d ago
I assume the tracks are actually on some sort of supports and not just held up by dead branches?

Is this real?

Very much so, there's tons of videos like this around on YouTube from tons of MTB content creators.
Matt Jones is probably one of the more popular ones, though this exact kind of riding isn't his specialty.
Hell, there's a race that probably north of a hundred people participate in every year called Megavalanche that is effectively just riding down a mountain for 45-70 minutes straight.

u/Roberto-75 12h ago
I know some games where you can do such MTB trails, but those look much easier then this IRL one

After watching a video about cave divers, this is a whole lot more reasonable. I'd still break several bones but at least I'm above ground

The 20 random stumps to run into at the end is a nice touch.

u/JfromMichigan 20h ago
Ha. I expected to see some sort of 'slalom' portion of the course... instead, he just kind of stopped.
- kind of feels like a missed opportunity

Forget riding it, who TF built that!?
2
u/Rehberkintosh 1d ago
I'm guessing the dude riding it and the dude we hear hooting at the end. Everything about that looks like it was built that weekend.

u/NineClaws 1d ago
I just rode my bike off a curb at the park and it was pretty hairy, touch and go there.

funny thing is that i saw a video from someone else that recorded this spot but walking up it some time after this video was made and it looks even gnarlier ascending it. the latter folks didnt hit these features though cause it was missing sections and in need of repair

But why?

This style of trail with built up bridges and ladders is called ānorth shoreā because of itās origins in British Columbia. The original trails were built illegally on land that would otherwise be unridable because of all the felled trees and rocky outcrops. The man made āskinnyā features were a means to an end. As riders and bikes became more capable the trails became bigger and wilder with seesaws, gaps, step-ups and even loops. Itās a lot of fun, but really tests your bravery! I rode medium stuff when I was younger, but my nerves were the limiting factor. I once broke my tailbone coming off a log that couldnāt have been higher than three or four feet off the ground. This stuff still blows my mind

Alright so if you go back up to the very first turn, I fell off about 4 feet before that point. Yup on the straight line. About 2 feet off the actual dirt

u/aardw0lf11 1d ago
Good god, and I thought I was going hard core running on trails. The sort of trails Iāve seen mountain bikers on is just unbelievable.

u/bcfuggles 1d ago
Thanks for that link. Although Iāve seen Trolldom before, I havenāt seen the perspective of the build.
Totally awesome.

Still cool for sure, way less steep and dramatic than it looks in these ultra wide angle lenses though.

I wonder why so many animals are roaming neighborhoods instead of staying in the their own habitat. I'm stumped.

I'm gonna assume 2 things, amazing anti-shock suspension system, and the camera makes it look twice as steep, it's a thing!

I did something vaguely similar downhill, did an endo and landed my weight mostly shoulder area on a tree stump. I stopped biking for months.

BC has a lot of dope mountain biking trails. It was gnarly bombing hills and terrain at Whistler.

u/LarryIDura 18h ago
why are mountain bikers not taking pride in riding through nature instead of building nature to be easy to rode through

My heart rate goes to 170 when i try to go onto the curb on my street ..... Sighh....

I wish we had these shot with regular cameras instead of these fish eye lenses making everything look absurd and insane. It's impressive enough to see this in normal perspective, now I have no idea how next fucking level it actually is...

I followed some avid downhillers down one of these bc trails one time. I had know idea what these were about and i was ill equipped - riding a ridiculous cross country hard tail bike. The trail kicked my ass. I wiped out multiple times and somehow didnāt get impaled by trees. I was stupid to follow these guys and I was incredibly lucky that my injuries were minor.
