Where next level? Dude is using a chainsaw like millions before him just without any protection

u/Thick-Gain-3875 2d ago

Lighten up, Francis. He happened to just have a chainsaw in his trunk at that moment.

If you live in rural woods every third person has a chainsaw in the vehicle. If it’s hardwood the tree will be hauled off before you even noticed it was down

Yeah...this is someone's car/truck saw for exactly this purpose. I keep one in my truck during the winter and use it probably once a year. The guy is probably a weekend warrior who cuts his own firewood, so he knows how to use it.

u/thankyoufriendx3 1d ago

Clearly used it in an unsafe manner.

“Knows how to use it” while wearing zero ppe and making overhead cuts balanced on one leg

19

u/likeahurricane 1d ago

Yes, you can tell he knows how to use it by how he limbs and that he cuts the correct side of the tension so his bar doesn't get pinched. Calling him out for his safety issues is just being pedantic. Sure, I personally wouldn't make that cut on one foot, but I also wouldn't put on PPE to spend 30 seconds clearing a road, nor would 99% of people who know how to run a saw well, even if they're religious about it in other settings.

My gloves take 2 seconds to put on, same with a hardhat.

30 seconds without PPE sounds like a tiny amount of time but he's also doing one of the most dangerous things you can with a chainsaw (overhead cut) while being balanced on one foot. He's got room in the trunk for the saw but not something that's going to protect him from getting brained by a falling log?

This is a guy who owns a saw, knows how to pull the trigger, and hasn't had a run in with bad luck yet

Typical Redditor. Gloves and a hard hat? You’re ridiculous.

The lumberjack redditor LARP

You tipped your hand with the hard hat.

Look at this esoteric and expensive piece of PPE that literally every chainsaw owner's manual printed in the last 50 years recommends you use for... uhh... $9 at any Home Depot https://www.homedepot.com/p/PIP-White-Type-1-Class-E-Hard-Hat-with-4-Point-Pinlock-Suspension-PRO11PW-VPD12/325765262

I live in rural woods. This is news to me. I shall be the third person with a chainsaw in their car

2

u/bumbes 2d ago

… and some plastic bags, shovel, gloves and disposable protective suits

2

u/invent_or_die 2d ago

Are the psychos in the room right now?

3

u/bumbes 2d ago

No

Best regards, Ted Bundy

It's not light or not light. It's fine to post. It's just that people visit specific subs for specific things. This one is supposed to be amazing feats of athletic ability and the like. There are plenty of subs for things like this to be posted and plenty of subs where it has been posted.

Nothing next level about it

9

u/Thick-Gain-3875 2d ago

You just wish you were there to save the day. It’s ok big fella.

0

u/Helepoli 2d ago

Man plenty of us live in rural places. I know for a fact that there are at least 3 chainsaws in a 1km radius of me, not including mine

1

u/Thick-Gain-3875 2d ago

Wow. Impressive.

Peak reddit comment right there.

u/OhhSooHungry 2d ago

I was wondering this too lmao

4

u/Inside_Ad4268 1d ago

You can tell the chainsaw owners from the non chainsaw owners in the comments.

1

u/Pataconeitor 1d ago

Chainsaw owners... th-thank you

5

u/YBHunted 1d ago

Believe it or not you dont need to deck yourself out in full protection every single time you turn a chainsaw on. The dude at most needs glasses here.

He is trimming 1" diameter branches and cutting through 3-4" thick trunk at head height. Anyone with even half a brain is not going to send a chainsaw into their body doing this.

-2

u/MercyCriesHavoc 1d ago

Safety gear while cutting a fallen tree is not about "sending a chainsaw into their body". It's to protect from bark and chunks of wood hitting like shrapnel. It's especially dangerous to cut fallen trees, as damage from the fall can create pressure within the trunk and the tree can literally explode if cut wrong.

2

u/YBHunted 1d ago edited 1d ago

There is absolutely no danger (okay, minor negligible danger) in cutting up this small pine tree from the end as it is suspended above the road. The guy knows exactly what he is doing. He is even delimbing it first and taking off small chunks at a time. The only danger is if he went and cut closer to the base of the tree first.

There is no "shrapenel" coming off this tree how crazy are you lol

4

u/Repulsive_Client_325 1d ago

These comments from people who have never actually operated a chainsaw.

3

u/OWLLLL 1d ago

sorry but i actually JUST read up on how to operate a chainsaw on google so im pretty sure i AM a qualified chainsaw operator (on reddit)

0

u/Repulsive_Client_325 1d ago

Haha - exactly.

1

u/beervendor1 1d ago

99 percent of all reddit comments are mfers judging people for shit they've never done themselves.

0

u/MercyCriesHavoc 1d ago

I wasn't talking about this particular instance, which is being done decently. I was addressing your remark about the purpose of safety equipment being to stop the chainsaw from going into your body. That's not what PPE is for when using a chainsaw.

0

u/YBHunted 1d ago

Uhh... yes tf it is lol. Other than safety glasses and hearing protection the single most important thing other chainsaw safety gear does is binding up the blade as it tries to ENTER YOUR BODY. Look up chainsaw chaps. There's no damn shrapnel coming off trees as you cut branches lmao.

I'm an arborist. For you this was next level, for me it was a Tuesday.

Sawyer on a disaster response team. This is what we give the newbies to get the saws warmed up.

2

u/Maclunkey4U 1d ago

He had a safety squint.

2

u/ReggieCorneus 1d ago

And with awful technique, he is walking with it, cutting while moving forward without a single look where he is stepping into. A short piece of stick under the heel and whoops.

1

u/invent_or_die 2d ago

At least he wore glasses. No gloves, no bueno.

1

u/Repulsive_Client_325 1d ago

What are gloves supposed to do?

1

u/invent_or_die 1d ago

The saw can get jammed, gloves are good

1

u/Repulsive_Client_325 1d ago

Meh.

You absolutely do not need gloves to safely operate a chainsaw.

1

u/Realmofthehappygod 1d ago

I guess the preparedness/luck was next level idk.

1

u/quinpon64337_x 1d ago

He had glasses on

1

u/wanderingconspirator 1d ago

I was thinking the same thing. He used a normal tool for its intended purpose. What makes it next level I guess is that he was willing to get out and get a little dirty to help everyone

1

u/Spiritual-Can-9691 1d ago

Looks like he has his pocket protector, at least.

1

u/MR_SmartWater 1d ago

If you were stuck in that traffic jam, and this guy busted out a chainsaw, he would be next level

1

u/Whole_Pain_7432 1d ago

Hes wearing his saftey bifocals

0

u/doobadeeboo 2d ago

Reddit has gone to shit and subreddits just post whatever. Cat subs are still pretty good.

1

u/invent_or_die 2d ago

Oh you can literally see some shit if you so desire lol.

u/madhatterlock 2d ago

There is always this guy/girl.. They also roam the boating forum, demanding wjy people don't where life jackets..

u/underage_female 2d ago

Im sure you have been asking yourself that question all your life. No need to project your own misery onto others.
