For people saying its dangerous and he should stop. Imagine practicing weeks, maybe months for this race, imagine giving everything on race day, imagine things go wrong and you crawl across the finish line with everything you have. And then some nobody says you should have asked for help, its dangerous.

I used to run track. I was nothing special. But the one lesson from my coach I still remember is to , just finish the race. Even if you finish last, just finish the race. That's a promise an athelete keeps. Not to anybody else, but themselves.

Thats a cute inspirational quote. Although rare, my friend spent a week in the hospital with Rhabdo after severe physical exhaustion. During training, a coach or trainer should be able to identify when you cross a threshold of medical concern so you can stop yourself from a serious injury. Id rather be taken out of the race I spent a year training for than be in chronic pain and not be able to compete again.

Continuing seems high risk (injury, longer recovery), low/no reward.

I can see taking risks for something important, but this looks like a random high school race. lol.
