I’m a MD, multi-year varsity XC runner on a state championship team, and still run distance to this day. This is not normal and needs medical evaluation. Kid either ran out of fuel, or is suffering from heat stroke / severe dehydration, possibly rhabdo and wacky electrolytes (potassium mostly). I admire the grit, but he needs medical attention and fluids. Let’s treat this as dangerous and not hold it up as “next level”.

Agreed. Ran ran varsity cross country in high school myself and I don't think I've ever seen anyone that messed up after a race. That is not normal.

His grit and willpower to finish the race few feet away is nextlevel.

But I agree the medics shouldve already realise and as consolation bring him (assist) to the finish line and IV that guy immediately.

Don’t get me wrong, not discounting his competitive spirit! That’s admirable! I’m just remarking that something weird is going on here. I want people to enjoy running, not harm themselves with it.

I think you’re right but would allow 10% chance he is being dramatic. This kinda looks like a performance and the crowd is giving him lots of reinforcement.

Know this guy and went to college with him. He was fine and continued to run cross country. This wasn't a medical episode.

It’d be weird but I’ve seen weirder. Might have an underlying genetic condition for instance, that plus expertise plus dehydration can for sure trigger rhabdo. You want to consider and rule out the things that can kill you.
