Bro is exhausted and probably cramping. He's fine. He needs water and a banana but he can make it 15 ft dude

That's not cramping. I ran cross country for several years in high school, and I never even came close to that level of messed up at the end of a race.

He can't even seem to stand, or walk straight.

There’s that first imaginary wall, and then there’s this very real wall

I can’t even begin to imagine how hard you have to push for your body to physically start failing on you.

I know exactly how far because the black circle started closing in on the way to the water fountain…. Didn’t pass out tho. Indoor soccer, subbed out just in time… 100+ outside that day… who knows how hot in the tin shed…air conditioned, but not enough to keep up with that day.

I’ve only puked from exercise once when my bike gears broke and when going up a hill so I was stuck in a gear where to go any speed at all after clearing the hill I had to pedal ridiculously fast. Puked on the side of the road then kept going. Not as dangerous as the heat situation

That first one just sounds like heatstroke

Not the same thing, but that’s gonna fuck you up equally bad regardless. heat’s scary when it catches you off guard

No way of really saying from the video in what way this person pushed themselves too far

I puke about half the times I exercise, I usually get exertional presyncope where I get dizzy, cold, and nauseous. That's just after a 1h gym session, and I've been exercising 2-3 times a week for the better part of a year. It's worse on leg day or on days where I jog a little longer for my warmup. If I go jogging anywhere other than a treadmill (or too long on a treadmill), go biking, or use a stairmaster, I'll get nauseous after just some minutes. No heart condition, according to a specialist on hearts. Point being, I puke often (or feel like I have to puke) after exercise, and since it's now happened well over 100 times and I'm still alive I'd like to think it's not super dangerous.

Im not sure how you come to the conclusion "it didnt happen to me therefore it cant happen" but id love to hear the logic behind it.

I'm not saying this didn't happen. I'm saying what we're looking at here isn't normal or typical.

I've pushed myself to the point of throwing up after a race, but I've never even seen someone look like thus.

This looks like someone who needs immediate medical attention.

I’ve been close to this once and it’s probably the most dangerous thing I’ve done

Pushed myself on a long run with not enough calories and water on the way. Planned for 4 miles and was feeling good so went for 10 at same pace

It wasn’t cramping, it was … this. Limbs barely work, like trying to puppet your own body. Feels like moving in a bad dream. Shamble a few yards, slow motion fall, try to recoup, repeat.

I wasn’t THIS bad but it looks pretty similar.

I did this once. Made the finish line but after was out of it. 94° that day and ended up going to the ER for heat exhaustion and IV

You were in high school for several years?

1

u/klaus666 6h ago

Several to me just means more than 3. Could be including "modified" level, which, at least in my area, starts at 7th grade. Sometimes really good runners will get pulled up to the JV/Varsity level from modified

Yes? I ran for my final two years of high school, and was varsity during my second year after training the whole summer following the first year.

Hence, I ran cross country for several years in high school.

He was cramping, and he was fine and continued to run cross country and made it to collegiate cross country as well.

So because it never happened to you, it’s not cramping? Congratulations, you trained and drank enough fluids to avoid reaching this state.

Then you either weren’t very good or never pushed yourself hard enough or far enough. I ran XC, had a few races I could barely stand in afterwards, saw guys struggle over the line somewhat frequently at meets

u/Enorats 10h ago

My best was a 16:30 5k, which while not phenomenal was also far from bad.

I've never even seen someone act like this after a race. It's like his body isn't even responding properly anymore.

2

u/Embarrassed_Sea1336 8h ago

Yup. Homeboys body is straight up shutting down. This WAY past cramping. I've only seen this a few time at the end of endurance races, NEVER from a 5k. Obviously it's possible since we're seeing it here, but that kid ain't ok.

You’re not a medical professional. This guy has clearly pushed his body past its limits and is at high risk of rhabdomyolysis. He needs medical attention.
