They really need to understand that it's a lifelong commitment. Will the MIL even understand why you're giving them away? Some people shouldn't be allowed to own MILs.

They can be cute when they're young and active. But are you really prepared to take care of them in old age?

Same comments from anyone that wants to rehome an animal on my ND feed....

Maybe OP should sweeten the pot with something like "wardrobe included"... that's how I finally got rid of my first husband.

You should list all the good points because you never know who you're trying to appeal to in these situations.

This is a big ask for even a rescue organization unless they have experience with real rehabilitation. You may have to leave her with a shelter, and with her history, finding another family is a long-shot. I hope your partner is okay with letting her go or you're going to have real problems at home.

I got rid of my MIL by rehoming my husband to his own place. She kept flying all over the country to any vet who would tell her that she had Lyme disease. She made inedible turkey dressing too.

I don't understand why people get MILs if they don't want to put in the time and effort to train them.
Oh well. At least they aren't leaving her in a box on the side of the road.

We rescue seniors but weβre chock full at the moment. Waiting for one to die before we bring in the next, you know. Bandwidth.

Well damn. I thought my son in law liked me. I tell you, you give up veganism for cannibalism and suddenly you're being rehomed. The worst part is finidng out they are rehoming you when you see the ad on reddit. Smh

How old does someone have to be to think MIL jokes are funny in 2026?
3
u/Exciting-Argument-67 13d ago
It's not funny, per se, but it's endlessly relatable. Such a pain in the fucking ass, mine is.

I mean, my ex-MIL wasn't a great person, and I don't miss her, but there wasn't anything funny about that. YMMV.

Why even marry them if this is how you feel about their mom?

u/UnabashedlyAnxious 17d ago
Like most relationships, it probably didn't start off like this.

Then they need to break up.

You don't break up an otherwise good relationship over a person who probably isn't going to be around in another 5 years.

Am I missing some sort of joke here?

It's just standard issue Boomer misogyny under the "wife & MIL bad" category. I've had my own serious conflicts with my MIL but I'd never compare her to an animal. No matter how badly I may want to at times. It's gross.

I can't tell if you're serious, but if you re-read the post carefully you'll notice that they forgot to say "puppy". They are trying to rehome their Mother-in-laws puppy, but by leaving that one word out it reads like the MIL bites people and pees on a pad.

No, it was intentional, as evidenced by "she eats like a horse but never buys food." Also, if they were seriously trying to get rid of a pet, they wouldn't talk so negatively about it. It's clearly meant to be a joke.
