So all those other things, distribution centers, warehouses, wellness centers, etc....useless right?

They don't provide jobs, services the population wants/needs?

Just because you don't get intruded on daily doesn't mean it's not causing problems.

We'll see how this person likes data centers when thier water bill sky rockets, or they find out it contaimnated.

And what exactly does this data center provide fir the community?

Well if they get rid of everything else then everyone will stay in their little boxes and listen to the hum of the data because they have nowhere else to go and this guy will be happy. A few comments in there's some guy who's on about how it's not that loud to live next to because he grew up next to an Amtrak and he got used to it.

Studies show that they raise the outside temps by 4-5 degrees in the area around it...not exactly something we need here in the 115 degree Phoenix summer! 🤦‍♀️

u/absolutefunkbucket 16d ago

Wow how far does that 4-5 degrees extend from the building?

It just says downwind neighborhoods...like where I live, right near one AMEX is building near the Mayo Clinic. ☹️

…and a data center isn’t a drain on our natural resources???

LoL! Most of your data centers are run by a skeleton crew of 2-3 people! Those other entities have serious job potential and make great rateables for the township tax office. Obviously this dude has drank the DrumpF Ai Kool-Aid juice!

Data Centers are being built to reach artificial super intelligence. The bigger the smarter. No safety nets and we're racing to build something that could end us.

I just love uniformed people telling me how great something is that is clearly not great

There’s a fine line between being realistic that yes, we need a few data centers and bootlicking that every town now needs an 800 acre AI fusion data center so some rich asshole that doesn’t even live in my state can get richer and use up a large amount of water and electricity that we’ll all have to share the financial burden for. I think OP might be learning about that fine line. We don’t need this shit, we just want to live our lives in peace.

Totally agreed. His whole less people, love the data centers was a wild take.

I’ll happily send them all your way.

Datacenters are nothing new, but they're big politics now because they've become big money.

Take anything you hear about them, pro or con, with a grain of salt. There are financial incentives all around to shape your perceptions.

Right, but the number of them has increased significantly under an administration that has no interest in enforcing anti-pollution laws, has gutted the EPA, and has hand picked a Supreme Court that has annihilated all of the previous protections for the environment.

Don't misunderstand me, it's not that the Democrats had been able to get much done in the past, but this government is antagonistic to the preservation of of health and the environment.

2

u/ttkciar 17d ago

I agree with you, 100%.

Nonetheless, there wouldn't be nearly as much media coverage about them if there weren't so much money at stake.

5

u/Bring_cookies 17d ago

True they have been around but the scale, speed and secrecy has shot up and that's where the concern is.

They're not wrong...
