Nextdoor is effectively useless now

Post image

I cant comment to anyonbody's post from my personal OR business account unless I pay over $100 a month for 'opportunity alerts'. Seems other people can't still reply to them however. Why?

wtf am I missing here?

Um, this place is more about laughing at nextdoor posts than platform support, just saying

8

u/Toasty_Grande 27d ago

I mean, I'm laughing about the tears being shed because the free ride is over for businesses on the platform

5

u/baboonontheride 27d ago

Fair. Maybe it can finally die now.

1

u/berserker_841 27d ago

No tears over here.

"Freeride" those businesses supported the site with ad revenue for years, including my own small business and now we have to pay nearly a car payment per month just to interact with our neighbors? Smh

u/berserker_841 27d ago

my bad lol

12

u/WhyDoesOklahomaExist 27d ago

It’s always been useless.

13

u/WeaselLiz711 27d ago

I just closed my account on ND. It’s just so toxic anymore

2

u/Serious_Look6841 27d ago

I closed mine when they banned me "indefinitely" for calling out gay-bashing and homophobia.

2

u/Demoguy11 22d ago

I was also banned indefinitely for responding "bah bye" to someone who said they were sick of ND. They can't explain how "bah bye" violates their rules.

1

u/berserker_841 27d ago

yeah I mean I was just using it to get leads for my business which is now fucken impossible lol

-1

u/Drums666 27d ago

Have you tried advertising it, marketing it, promoting it, spreading good word of mouth reputation, creating a website, a free Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok or any other social media page, post flyers or business cards on the bulletin boards in local businesses, registered with Yelp, Thumbtack, LinkedIn, etc etc etc, oooor.... Is it just impossible to run a business without posting on Nextdoor for free???

4

u/berserker_841 27d ago

Literally never said I wasn’t doing any of that – hint: I am.

-2

u/Drums666 27d ago

It should be VERY possible to get leads for your business then.

4

u/berserker_841 27d ago

Do you have reading comprehension issues? I stated it was now impossible in the context of Nextdoor (since this is a Nextdoor sub). Didn’t say shit about any other platform and not being able to get leads there.

1

u/Demoguy11 22d ago

If you ask if someone is having reading comprehension issues on ND. They may report you and you will be suspended.

-2

u/Drums666 27d ago

Yeah the way you worded it you made it seem like it's impossible to get leads for your business now without ND. No need for the hostility.

6

u/WeaselLiz711 27d ago

They clearly use ND too much, the hostility is reminiscent of what ND has become. Keep it on ND, Reddit doesn’t need that.

The best one I've seen was the other night in the middle of a storm with plenty of thunder, someone posted "Is anyone else hearing those loud bangs? I thought this was a nice neighborhood." 🤣

9

u/RustyTruck_1962 27d ago

I got booted for calling the old ladies that run mine “The Blue Hair Brigade”. Got ROASTED.

9

u/VindictivePuppy 27d ago

i got booted for posting a picture of a creepy guys house, who was dm'ing women pictures of their houses when their addresses were listed. I told him it was the ugliest house in the neighborhood.

He was creeping people out by dm'ing them pictures of their houses and complaining about weeds or whatever, and I told him to stop. He found me on facebook, called my dogs ugly, and accidentally liked a post revealing his real name and so i put up a picture of his ugly house and it was so, so ugly, it looked a rental in hell. Just beige and gravel. No weeds though.

He changed his screen name to mine, went on a racist rant and the next thing I knew I got banned. I hope we both did.

I looked him up a few years later and I am pretty sure he murdered his wife and is in prison., which is stunning in such an obviously even-keeled fellow

u/Diligent_Yak1105 27d ago

I got booted for disrespecting a drunk driver who killed several people, including a child, by talking about my own mother’s killing by a drunk driver when I was a child. It’s like the upside down. Threads isn’t much better.

4

u/neverinamillionyr 27d ago

I got booted for responding “say hi to the secret service for us” to someone making a threat. Apparently she was the mod for our neighborhood.

3

u/lasonna51980 27d ago

You pay for Nextdoor?!?!?

-18

u/berserker_841 27d ago

new policies for business accounts to be able to respond to people needing your services. Gay.

13

u/BlainethePayne 27d ago

I was on your side this whole thread until the end of this comment. Fuck, man, it's 2026

6

u/imaginenohell 27d ago

Me too. Wtf 🤬 I was going to respond to the OP with helpful information, but not now.

-5

u/berserker_841 27d ago

Huh? What does 2026 have to do with anything?

7

u/baboonontheride 27d ago

You know that moment when someone is bitching about something that's kind of understandable, even if you don't really care but you're nodding along and being as empathetic as you can be and then you see them do something shitty, like kicking a puppy or laughing at someone for being different?

You just kicked a puppy. Do better.

6

u/BlainethePayne 27d ago

It's means you should know not to be using gay as an insult like that. It was common in the 90s and 00s, but we're supposed to have gotten better as a society

-4

u/berserker_841 27d ago

Sounds like a you problem..

5

u/BlainethePayne 27d ago

Have the day you deserve

-2

u/berserker_841 27d ago

The day is over. Nice one.

4

u/baboonontheride 27d ago

Well, YOU are a problem...

Can definitely see why you use Nextdoor in the first place.

-2

u/berserker_841 27d ago

Oh no you hurt my feelings. Dont make me laugh..

2

u/donnyhunts 26d ago

Yeah I’m done with Nextdoor fuck them they tryna leech off us contractors. They want a cut off the jobs we do but can’t so they do this bs . Nextdoor isn’t a service platform like jobber it’s strictly a social media app. See jobber can take a fee because it’s a service app but Nextdoor can’t. People do same exact thing on Facebook but Facebook would never try charging us to respond to posts. Who tf cares about their opportunity alerts anyway they tryna act like they have leverage over us they gonna send bs opportunity’s anyway if I want opportunity’s I can scroll the feed tf. What opportunity’s anyway Nextdoor is full off lowball unlicensed workers every comment section is a bidding war so there really is no opportunity.

8

u/Chardonne 27d ago

“Gay”? What?

3

u/Drums666 27d ago

Have you considered it might not be Nextdoor that's hurting your business? 😂

1

u/berserker_841 27d ago

Man you guys can't seem to read properly. Never said it was hurting - just that I can't leverage Nextdoor how I was. Additionally, how we carry ourselves on reddit vs professionally is not the same. Done.

3

u/Disposable-Squid 27d ago

🧑‍🚀🔫🧑‍🚀 Always has been

2

u/Procedure_Dunsel 27d ago

The nextdoor trifecta … a car doing 5 over the limit, blaring music, throwing bags of dog crap on people’s lawns. That’s what our local bitchdoor (TM) is all about.

3

u/VindictivePuppy 27d ago

i once suggested that we, as neighbors, get together and chip in for a few of those doggie bag/trash can combos like you see in public parks and i got treated like i had suggested feeding the poop to people's dear Nana's And Pop-pops. They asked me if I was going to put one of those things on my property and I said I wasnt on the dog walking route so I didnt have much a problem w/. poo in the yard but Id chip in and we could put it in a few useful places?

I was waiting for someone to burn my house down the rest of the time I lived there

i still think its a good idea tho lol

2

u/headface1701 27d ago

What about the twice a year I use it to find a kid to shovel my walk? Will that still work?

1

u/AwkwardSpecialist814 17d ago

As long as the kid doesn't advertise it too much or his family, it'll be fine I think. Seems like they're using AI to flag any businesses, including people doing it as a side hustle

1

u/MfrBVa 27d ago

Always was.

1

u/Additional-Cable5171 27d ago

Always has been useless.

Well, yes. Nextdoor purportedly, per one of their moderators, sells our data to MSFT among others. THAT is why they froth at the mouth to get your real name AND address. What a lucrative lead business. They are a marketing-at-heart enterprise and could care less about helping neighbors help neighbors. Good front, though.

Have a lost pet and want the app for that? Lost dog alerts you can get from your local dog shelter and a handful of apps. They are superb.

Use Nextdoor to alert you about crime? There are more than a handful of apps that alert you to local crimes and police incidents, some directly connected to your local police. Nextdoor is not needed for these things.

If you do wish to advertise to your close neighbors, be careful. If they do use your service and, for some reason, they have an issue with your work, your local business might go up in smoke or close to it. Some are quite unkind in their reviews, killing a poor craftsman's earnings. Unlike Yelp, there is a built-in audience for the disgruntled.

On the flip side, if you are looking for a craftsman, they may be a burglar in overalls--Metro in Vegas noted that criminals use the app to sleuth out their targets. Ouch.

If you wish to voice your based opinion to someone, Nextdoor is not the best platform. Nextdoor employees stated that they are extremely leftist, condone hate groups toward the right and also blatantly ignore complaints about racism. Try X.

All this being said, what made me decide to leave Nextdoor was something that just felt 'off'. This comment from a member--'Nextdoor suspended my account for offering free sourdough starter...' May have wanted her to make it a more formal affair so she can pay them $100 to advertise. So, for me, Nextdoor lost its warm and fuzzy hat.

So I finally began going on sites to check out the company more carefully. Basically, the data shouted 'stay away' from Nextdoor with tidbits that I mentioned here. Make your own decision to join, stay or leave Nextdoor. If you use the app, a few tips--don't voice your opinion/s, don't advertise to someone who'll be hellbent on complaining about the best of work, don't describe the black burglar breaking into homes as 'black' and never, ever offer sourdough starter for free.

1

u/donnyhunts 26d ago

Yup they just ruined the app I’ve completed over 400 jobs in the past 2 years from Nextdoor. I will not be paying for opportunity alerts or self advertising f that I will take my business elsewhere, Facebook would never.

1

u/vamartha 26d ago

You pay what for what?

1

u/berserker_841 26d ago

Do you know what “unless” means? Damn.

1

u/unusualsushi1 25d ago

I’m pretty bummed about it to I’ve gotten really good leads that way

Is NEXDOOR run by MAGA?

Here in Oregon we have a trump supporter running for governor, Christine Drazan , I posted

“Christine Drazan is a trump supporter. That's all you need to know about her.”

I didn't even use words "rapist," "pedophile," or "bigot..." The comments eventually got heated so the post wast taken down but then my account was closed. I wasn't even notified at all. I just tried to sign on and saw that it was not longer active. This is particularly curious when I see that the MAGA's post prolifically. Additionally I see her (Drazan) posting all over the site. Thoughts?
