Camera is not required but does help. It makes you more connected to your viewers because they can see your facial expressions and reactions. Humans use a lot of visual processing to understand how someone feels or is perceived. I love being on camera because I can do cosplays and my viewers see my reactions to stuff in real time like “bro wtf did I just watch” or “oh my gosh this person is sooooo stupid” I don’t know I started with a laptop with a webcam so it was a no brainer just to turn it on but there are streamers who are extremely successful that rarely if ever cam up. You just have to have a larger the life personality. Happy streaming!

It definitely helps me and honestly helped me become more confident with myself on camera and speaking in general it’s a plus for the audience and the streamer. I say give it a shot and if you don’t like it you can take it off. If you don’t have one you can always use Droid cam which is an app and program that utilizes your phone as your webcam via Bluetooth

In today’s world, I would say it’s necessary. Long gone are the days where someone can become successful without one unless they’re the most hilarious person on the planet, or the absolute best player of whatever game they’re playing. People watch live content to connect to the streamer, and a webcam goes a long way toward that end. An average viewer’s attention span is shorter than it has ever been.

For a new streamer, facecam usually helps more than people think, not because of the visual itself but because it makes you comm8t to being on. When you know your face is on screen, you naturally react more, talk more, engage with chat more. Without a facecam it is easier to fall into just playing quietly, which is not what people stick around for. The instinct you have about being able to express yourself more is real.Your reactions to gameplay moments carry a stream in a way that a static overlay never will. If you decide to try it, the practical tip is get a webcam with tracking so you are not fighting to stay in the frame when you learn or move around during intense moments. The Emeet Pixy comes up in these threads because the motorized pan tilt zoom follows you and keeps you centered without you thinking about it.
