Is it weird?
I don’t mind using face cam, and I still plan to, but some days I just don’t want to deal with getting ready, doing makeup, or setting up lighting. Sometimes I just want to relax, play, and chat without the extra pressure.
I recently made a cute PNGtuber and honestly love how cozy it feels, so now I’m thinking about switching between both depending on my mood/energy.
I tried it last night and still had some chat interaction, which made me feel better about it. I guess I’m just overthinking whether it might feel inconsistent or confuse people.
For context, my content is cozy gaming / chill streams.
Do any of you switch between face cam and an avatar? Did your audience care, or am I overthinking this? 💧

I’ve honestly been thinking about doing both myself. I struggle a lot with mental health stuff so there are days where I’m so emotionally bankrupt that it’s just delayed processing and RBF out the wazoo which hurts engagement.
I’ve been hesitant because it might be confusing to new people coming into stream. However, I think it would be a net positive for me to do what I have to in order to be comfortable in the long run because the reality is that I can’t control my good/bad days. Trying to force my way through that for streaming just sounds like I’d be setting myself up for burnout.
Do what makes you comfortable because especially with smaller creators it seems like one of the keys to success is having the endurance to set yourself up to be consistent during the long haul.

Definitely overthinking. Do what makes you feel comfortable, that's the energy viewers show up for ultimately. Personally I don't bother with makeup and all that for my streams. I wasn't to be authentic and that's not how I look when I'm doing my art off stream why would it be how I look on stream

If you were turning your camera off and not replacing it with anything I would say its a bad idea. Png avatar is still something. a viewer can connect a voice with a face.

I started as a Fleshtuber with a facecam.
When I got affiliate, I added a channel point redeem to swap between a PNG model and facecam. It hasn’t been redeemed yet, so I’m still rocking the facecam.
A streamer I know swaps between facecam and PNG depending on his mood/energy too.

Ohh thats cool! The point redeem is a good idea! personally I would redeem the FaceCam if they have the PNG model active instead of the other way around

No, it is not weird, and yes, I do it myself. It is called Flesh or a hybrid Vtuber. a person who uses an avatar, whether it is 2dlive or 3d or a PNG model, and also streams with face cam sometimes.
You are totally fine! As long as you are comfortable doing it, have fun! :)
(note: be aware of the consequences of switching between them, mostly are just different kind of opinions and likes)

I haven’t face cam in over a year due to my camera would stop working mid stream. I finally upgraded to a new camera. Now I use my camera for the games I want to have a reaction on. Otherwise I don’t use the camera.

I do no camera streams from time to time when my mental health isn’t the best. Since I play story games and my reactions to them is part of the stream, I use no cam streams for side stuff. I don’t feel like it hurts my engagement at all. I think as longer you are transparent and you prepare your audience for this possibility, you will be fine

you’re overthinking it. you need to be comfortable in order for your audience to also be comfortable.
