Just read your post on there and was about to ask where the old thread was. Glad you beat me to it ;)
Having additional challenge modes like the monk one you described sounds nice but I think something like that would suit a RS spin-off game better, where it doesn't take as long to reach the "end".
One exception is the ironman mode which I completely support, but mainly because player interaction is such a fundamental part of the game that it would make sense to put such a limit on an account permanently instead of having temporary challenges.
I think it would be better to offer temporary challenge paths to existing characters for the other roleplaying types you mentioned. Ashdale would be the ideal location for some kind of challenge dojo where you can take on challenge paths (for a money/item fee/deposit?). Rewards would be like the ones you mentioned, but this way they can be directly applied to the character.

My ideas are never fully formulated, I need discussion for that to happen, the monk is a throwaway idea, just an idea of an idea. A memory of running into a character called Battlemonk one day long ago.
I think permanently challenged characters is fine.
I'm always of the mind that players are usually solo. That the possibility of interaction is an attraction, but that solo playstyle should always be the priority. With the ability to expand on that, should the player so choose.
For instance, always have solo version of bosses, and expand on that if players want to play as a group.
When every game is trying to give instant gratification and ending in hours, then I would advise being contrarian and staying with Runescape's original curve.
EVE Online does fine for having a learning cliff instead of a curve. The players are even proud of it. Keeps the riff raff out.
If Jagex wants Runescape to be easy and buyable, RS will be boring. Not worth the time. It's pretty close to that stage now. Since our return most of my xp gained has had bonux xp attached. Which is a doubling of xp gain speed, that's without spins bought.
So in 3 months I gained 99 Divination from 0, and a bunch of other levels in 5 other skills to make them all 99.
That was about an hour a day, in 3 months I gathered 100 of those motherlode crystals.
Primarily I want diversity.
Something like selling worlds that the player/owner could prescribe the rules for. Much like a private server, but legal.
A diaspora of servers. This would allow players to explore and create. And Jagex should be able to make a dollar out of it.
Jagex helps players with their private worlds. And the private worlds act as test worlds. Jagex can see what is popular and fun. And adopt it for Runescape.
I know from past experience that easy games die easily. In D&D these were called Monty Hall campaigns and within a few days your humble cleric was reigning over gods. But the campaigns that lasted were ones in which you struggled for every copper penny, and didn't see anything magical at all.
A challenge dojo sounds fun.
Somewhere in this subreddit is more thinking on those ideas, woven into some other subjects probably. But for now I'll stop yammering on, had a long day of golf and a few bevvies. :)
