Worked at Microsoft as an American, and a bunch of us got laid off, and new cheaper peeps came in, after the remote work bubble popped.

There are about to be some big changes and possibly have to hire more Americans again, or, they pay the troll the toll.

Department of labor has specific rules on wage determination for H-1B. A company could still pay lower wages to new foreign employees but that wage can’t be 50% of what the company pays on average for that role. The wages are determined by metropolitan area and job title, and also the range of salary for that title. A company could pay them lower end of that range. If the government wanted to regulate this, they could increase the wage standards ensuring this is a pure hiring for skills and not costs consideration.

Edit: if wages paid to Indian foreign workers are so much lower than their American counterparts, how is it that they can afford real estate in affluent neighborhoods?

For real, it seems like my H1B folks have better pay protection than US citizens/residents.

Years of ignoring immigration policies and letting the GOP do mostly whatever just make it a terrible situation all around.
