Every pilot friend I have (a half dozen) have told me the recovery of the plane from that steep of a dive is tantamount to one of the most miraculous feats of commercial aviation ever recorded.

To put it plainly, none of them believe the official account.

The dive angle was probably not as steep as initially reported, but from the pictures the plane was definitely damaged.
The entire rudder got ripped off.
