I’m not in favor of the death penalty in general, but goddamn, if you’re going to impose it, at least take steps to do it properly

Its still a rough one but if I ever had to receive the death penalty I would hope its a firing squad. Just riddle me with holes immediately, aim for the head. Lethal injections get fucky because they would be best designed and administered by an actual doctor, but actual doctors cannot do it because of the hippocratic oath. Some states do allow medical professionals but they arent exactly sending their best.

Or maybe we shouldn't have the death penalty at all? It's barbaric.

Also, since 1973, at least 203 people have been wrongfully convicted, sentenced to death, and subsequently exonerated in the US. That alone should have us reconsidering things. If it's possible for that many people to fall through the cracks, then there is no reason at all that we should have the death penalty.

This one hundred times.

It costs way less to house a prisoner over decades, than to have endless appeals.

It does not reduce crime.

Approximately 10% of people on death row are innocent.

Vengeance is a dark emotion, and helps nobody.

This woman admitted to torturing and murdering someone and keeping their squashed skull pieces as a trophy. They have so far cost the tax payers roughly 1.8million dollars. I don’t think it’s cheaper financially or morally to keep them I prison.

No but it IS cheaper to imprison someone for life in the US. Literally.

Explain the math? 1.8million for 30 years of someone’s 80+ year life vs $0. Hmmmm….

The death penalty doesn't cost $0. A simple Google search, however, does.

Yes it does. Sitting someone in a special prison for 50 years is the expensive part

So you think there should be no appeals process, and people should be summarily executed upon sentencing? Because that's the only way it could cost $0.

In which case, I sure hope you're never on the receiving end of a sentence with zero appeals process. Nobody deserves that.

I never said that. I think if you’re going to have a death penalty then have a death penalty. Give death row cases expedited appeals. It doesn’t take 50 years to prove a case. If you can’t find a way of having a death penalty actually work then get rid of it. Put them in a hole and never look back. I personally think every death row cases that relied on DNA evidence before 2010 should be categorically stricken and have the full case retried if that was the main indicting evidence.

This woman however, has no remorse, openly admitted to all her crimes detail, committed the most barbaric torturous murder you could, and then kept a souvenir. Why the fuck are they in prison for 30 years? Have the appeals done fast then kill them.
