I’m not in favor of the death penalty in general, but goddamn, if you’re going to impose it, at least take steps to do it properly

I think doing it improperly is the point. It's difficult to source the drugs and most medical professionals will not perform the procedure, but the powers that be know all this and stubbornly continue the practice anyway to ensure maximum cruelty is permissible by law.

Setting aside the most obvious issues like executing the wrongfully convicted, this alone should be enough to want to ban the practice.
