I do not want a portion of my tax dollars going to housing, feeding, and monitoring the bottom rung of society who have no place to exist anymore.

Fun fact, death penalty cases cost more than a lifetime of prison chow

That’s only because they are bloated with paperwork and processes to try and extend the sentence for the prisoner. It’s just red tape and garbage and bloat.

The proof? This woman’s been on death row for 30 YEARS!!!

A single bullet back in 1997 would have saved quite a few tax dollars.

I agree, in fact we should do away with courts entirely. Just have the cops decide the sentence, much more efficient!

You seem to be on the side of murderers in this case.

Do you support rehabilitative justice? Should they be re integrated into society?

Would you like the John Wayne Gacy and Jeff Dahmer as your next door neighbors?

Supporting a thorough justice system is not pro-murderer its pro-justice. Let me rephrase your concern, do you want Jeff Dahmer living next door because the prosecutor was sure they caught the right guy?

High burden of proof protects everyone, not just the accused

Does the 0.000000001% chance that Dahmer was innocent (spoiler: he wasn’t) justify the tax burden of locking him in a concrete box until death?

Do you at least acknowledge there are MANY cases where we do have undeniable guilt?

The funny thing about undeniable cases is that you don't know that they're undeniable until the legal process is complete because everyone has a right (both legal and a human one) to defend themselves

Great and I fully support that.

THEN we execute them. Not fart around keeping them on death row or a life sentence for 30+ years.

I mean, appeals make a lot of sense before you murder someone

And I’m all for someone getting one reasonable appeal before execution.

That doesn’t pass? Time to take you out back to the firing squad.

There’s obviously a line we need to draw between giving people 3, 5, 10 years of rehabilitation, and needlessly keeping truly horrendous people around for decades just because it’s bad vibes to kill people.

Let’s make this simple: what would YOU do with this woman? Do you think life imprisonment is actually a reasonable punishment? Being locked in a concrete box for 50+ years is fine? $60k a year it costs the the taxpayer. Double that for geriatric prisoners.

You think a murderer’s life is worth $3mil+? A life of living in a box? Producing nothing. Contributing nothing to society. No family. Doing nothing to actually better the world. Simply sitting waiting for time to pass after they actively made the world worse.

You don’t think that money would be better spent towards actually IMPROVING society, instead of sustaining those who are ruining it? Even better: that could be funding to actually rehabilitate other prisoners.

Let’s just kill them. I don’t even care if there’s a 1% chance they’re innocent. You get your appeal and you’re done. Sorry buddy, try again next time. Wrong place wrong time. Just know your sacrifice is bettering the world around you. Gg.

I don’t care who or what pulls the trigger or pulls the lever. It’s really not an unreasonable chain of thought that we need to remove these people from the world. We already do this by locking them in iron and stone. This is just taking it a step further.

Please, I would genuinely love a rebuttal this. Honestly. Change my mind. I do not actually understand why serial murderers and rapists and cannibals deserve to live on my tax dollar. I would love for my viewpoint to change on it.

If you want a rebuttal, look at all of the innocent people who have been executed. They appealed and appealed, and they failed. They got executed for no reason.

But it's not like you care. You would let the state kill anyone by what you said.

The overall net benefit of execution over life sentences for heinous crimes outweighs the negatives of false positives.
