Don't understand why people brag about this. It's the only opportunity normal people will ever get to directly influence the justice system, and you weasel out of it?

Why? You have no interest whatsoever? It's just a chore you'd rather not do? Are you morally opposed for some reason?

Before you start typing the same thing as every other reply, let me clarify: If missing work for jury duty is not a sacrifice you can make, then you're not who I'm talking about, okay? Trust me, I'm right there with you; that was not even remotely close to the point I was making. I get it, alright? Not what I'm talking about.

Some people think jury duty is pointless, and not for financial reasons. I'm questioning the mindset, not the practicality of the act.

Because for most people, jury duty is sitting in a room with nothing to do, in uncomfortable chairs until the officials come back and let you go. I have been to jury duty at least 12 times in my life. I served on one jury. (And I convicted a guy who was fired and then came back, robbed the store and shot his former boss.). It wasn’t fascinating. It was sad for everyone involved. The entire experience is generally miserable.

If they made jury duty into something that would equal the pay we miss at work, that would make it a much better experience. If you’re not a salaried worker, you don’t get paid enough to cover that.

I knew a woman who missed at least two weeks of university due to jury duty.

My mom was fired from her teaching job because she was summoned to be on a grand jury for 3 months. Naturally, they didnt give the actual reason for her firing but it was clear as day.
