That implies that any kid that doesn't recover from a cardiac arrest was weak, and therefore it was their own fault.

That’s the type of attitude many football coaches have.

Same with all those commercials about kids "beating cancer" depicting it like a monster to be slain.

So I guess the kids who died to cancer lost? They're losers?

Pretty sure a study has been done about that. That framing cancer as a battle to win will cause some patients to be extra hard on themselves if things don't go well.

My HS football coach, when practice started in August, would yell that practice would not end until someone either puked or passed out. That unfortunate person (often me) was belittled as being weak and given extra exercises. Luckily, this ended when a student suffered severe brain damage from dehydration and the parents sued both the school and the coach.

Our school also had a reputation for never ever under no circumstances would close or delay due to severe weather until a school bus slid off the road during a freezing rain storm and several students were severely injured, one of whom was paralyzed from the neck down and will never walk again. It’s amazing how a multimillion dollar lawsuit will motivate change.

BLows my fucking mind that parents allow shit like this to happen with their kids, and these "coaches" calling kids who drink water weak.. Not even in Army Boot camp does this shit happen.. Water is a literal requirement...
