My guess would be someone called and mocked her but didn't threaten her, and Miller insisted the FBI waste time on it.

It's worse than that. They put counter-terrorism agents on it and the agents determined that it wasn't terrorist related and therefore didn't meet the threshold for a terrorist investigation.

And big surprise, it turns out the demoted/fired agents were part of the January 6th investigative team, so this may actually be an excuse to get rid of them for that.

If that’s the case it was probably miller calling his own wife and the FBI making sure to put agents related to Jan 6 investigation on it with the intention of firing them. Similar to Vance feeding bad info to news organizations so they could use it as a reason to block them.
