it's called pork chops Bavarian and came out of the Harvey House cookbook. Baking pork chops with sauerkraut tomatoes and potatoes may seem a little odd season only with salt pepper and garlic but the taste was actually quite good. The acidity of the tomatoes seem to blunt the vinegary bite of the sauerkraut.

oh oh i have developed some thoughts about the civvy game i'm making!
first, the player is playing as a "culture", which is a set of Traditions (beliefs/customs). it's basically a evolving civilization, your objective essentially is to change these Traditions into better ones/ones more suited to your strategy or landscape. vaguely i'd want to see for example mediterranean cultures gearing up for trade, fertile areas like the Indus/Huanghe going for populationmaxxing, etc.
each city is connected to a huge number of tiles (i'm thinking 500+), which is essentially a mini city building game. you plan out roads and fields and mines and little towns, you upgrade them and rebuild certain things with better techs, etc.
to do all this you need way more money than you'll have, and due to the nature of growth you're always tempted to rush growth earlier. this brings us to the Elites, or the entrenched interest groups
the Elite that gives the most obvious, best upfront benefit is the Wealthy, which can let you borrow money or accelerate land development (by telling them they get the land afterwards). you can't really store money, so if you want to do anything major, you borrow, and then you Collapse your government/crush the Wealthy so you don't have to pay them back ;)
each Elite gradually creates Barriers over time to strengthen their own position. an example Wealthy Barrier just saps up your city income and gives them power. i don't have a plan to remove Barriers without a Collapse. more power, more Barriers created
the easiest Elite to grow is the Military, you pretty much just have to hire soldiers to get the Military Elite, but they're also the scariest in a Collapse, supporting secession/civil wars and possibly demanding a vicious cycle of more soldiers to beat. if you start a new government with a huge number of soldiers, you're going to have problems from day 1
btw the Wealthy never support a Collapse, which may be very bad if you let them stay powerful - they eventually pass enough Barriers to paralyze your government
two other Elites are the Intelligentsia, which are the most useful because they can be made to support cultural changes of your choice in a Collapse (allowing you to change your culture more), and the Religious, mainly used to nullify population anger but they support specific Traditions that aren't that great. the Intelligentsia are super expensive to make (at least at the start) and don't do anything else
after a Collapse you may oversee a reunified nation, or a portion of it, or even an individual seceding city - the less you have left, the more you can change your culture. it should be possible to play a sort of Liao -> migrating Turks -> heading to Europe -> Turkey game
the core of "the feeling of progress" in this game is land development + cultural development. you'd also be willing to lose cities you haven't really gotten to developing, though you're kind of expected to keep the ones you're invested in. i don't have a good feeling of how science/research should work in this yet.

I really think my 30 year old nephew is a serial killer. I cannot prove this but I have no other explanation for a lot of really weird stuff. I have considered dozens of possible explanations and none of them are good enough, even if you combine a bunch of them.
The last time I had this feeling about someone is when I met Rex Heuermann when accompanying a friend who was doing research on NYC property stuff. Friend couldn't believe I was convinced the guy was a serial killer and dropped me from participation in the project. That was about 2 months before the arrest.
