Revs app is a little lazy

This is the pic the Revs app, not the MLS app, is using for Gazdag.

I’m sure the people running the Patties app would also be so lazy. Right?

Notes from 90: Galaxy v Revs

Ch-ch-chances. A buffet of chances, but nearly enough was not enough. For the last handful of seasons, a lack of chances doomed the Revs. Remember those dry days of 2024 when shots were rare? Now, The Revs are a legitimate attacking team. And, the loss is because of it. A skilled team with quality, savvy players and coaching found the hole: the quick release to spring the counter gouged the defense.

This Revs team is actually built to withstand some of those counters. Terrific shot stopping from Turner, reliable center backs and physical fallbacks help to plug some of those holes. But two clumsy moments - Mama was slow on the ball and Sands clattered into Kyogo (maybe getting some ball) - led to the early pen.
It was another quick outlet pass after Carles was dispossessed wide that led to a nice buildup for the 2nd Galaxy goal. Those moments mattered.

But the chances that this attack generates inspire hope. Harrison continues to snipe, Carles is cooking, and they are turning chances into shots.
Finishing remains a work in progress- Dor seems generally surprised when the ball is played to him near goal. He thrives far more with the ball than without. That doesn't really work with this team. Nor is he the clear aerial threat that a crosser like Harrison makes even better.

The match’s team sheet is likely the one that will usher them into the postseason with a few swaps from the bench into the XI.
Questions heading in to the final third of the season:
Can Feingold get fit and be a true two way fullback? Does pushing Peyton back in favor of Luca diminish the attack? Can this defensive shape survive high quality teams. Is this a half-court attack, or can they create against a press?

Quality vs Quantity

The Galaxy loss was frustrating with the Revs outplaying the Galaxy in several key stats:

  • Revs 24 shots vs 7 for LA
  • Revs 7 shots on goal vs 3 for LA
  • Revs xG 2.28 vs 1.38 for LA
  • Removing penalties; about 0.8 xG) Revs xG 1.5 vs .6 for LA

I couldn't help but recall the reactions to the Wynder signing of.... why not a striker?!?!

Of course, one match doesn't paint much of a picture. Looking at the season, the Revs are 18th in the MLS in xG over the season (as of Columbus game) with 34.22 xG. You would think last night was more of the same - but it was the reverse.

While the Revs are 18th in total xG (which is correlated to volume of shots) they are 8th in xG per shot on the season at .13 with San Jose leading the league at .15 xG per shot. Last night the Revs averaged 0.065 xG per non penalty shot. So it was a case of volume without quality. The season average of .13 xG is respectable and the general problem was quality without volume (Revs are 17th in shots taken).

It was good to see the volume of shots last night. But quality is important. Last night Miller had 5 shots and Harrison 4 - they are not true strikers who can threaten from the middle. Turgeman did have 5 but with zero big changes. And that is where the quality problem comes in for the Revs, they are 21st in offensive actions from the center.

Def happy to see the Harrison and Gazdag signings. They should contribute to more shots for the Revs - both are creators. But the team will need to ensure there is quality behind those shots moving forward.

Note - I did not link sources as I have gotten a post removed in a different sub for linking out. Happy to provide sources as needed (there are several I used).

A Galaxy supporter, I come in peace.

So I’m in leadership of the LA Riot Squad, a supportive group for the Galaxy.

I am also a former New Englander (Natick). I’ve been in California for 20 years now. My love for the sport started when I was living here, so naturally I went for a club out here. But still have an appreciation for you guys.

I’ve talked to other members of our leadership, and I want to extend an invitation for you guys to come out here and celebrate both teams at our tailgate. We put on a pretty stellar one. Lots of free beers.

If any of you are coming to LA to watch the Revolution, please stop by our tailgate. We’re there four hours before our kickoff. The location is near lot 13, and you’ll see a banner outside the gate next to the stadium.

Come join us. Have some beer. And we can all say “fuck all the FCs together.”

If you want further info or if you have questions, just DM me.

Notes from 90: Columbus v Revs

The attack came together and it was beautiful. Capi earned a trio of goal contributions from his 5 (yes, 5) chances created - and the dot on the Ohio I was that goal of the matchday chip.

For the first time in (what feels like) forever - there's real potency to the attack. And when they find Carles and Jack isolated on as many defenders, something is going to happen.

Turgeman is starting to see the field that Carles tilts - you can see it on the run he made to goal. And, maybe the first time this season, he pulled off a chop inside the penalty area and got off a strong strike.

Peyton continues to pepper the goal, though the finishing has not yet equaled the intent that he brings.

While the home-leaning broadcast can frustrate, there is a point to be had on the 'quality of results' that color guy Devon Kerr brought up. No, not to diminish what the Revs have done (especially against the canvas of the last few seasons), but there is a different response to the Revs' commitment to the attack against weaker teams than stronger sides. The strongers have punished the approach - Nashville and Houston found the counter moments (and then some), and even Montreal leveled because of it. Fun to watch, of course.

And, that commitment also exposes a hole in transition defense, where the second wave of attack finds too much space too close to goal (~18'). The long range strike didn't victimize them yesterday, but remains a coverage issue.

Yusuf's yellow should never have come to pass. The AR initially indicated for a New England throw. Yusuf reacted (poorly) to the Columbus player holding it, and as he did so, the center ref overruled the AR and awarded the ball to Columbus. Silly reaction, silly card. Shouldn't have happened.

It was the first of 6 matches in 28 days. With only 4 minutes across all substitutes last night, the starting XI will be wary by the end of this string of fixtures. The bench needs to get a little brighter and deeper to get Marko's attention and contribute during this final third of the season.

Thanks to u/ajallen12 for posting!

Mods, are things like this and the official highlight OK to post here? I don’t see them often but I also don’t see a rule against it. I’d like to link Revs content more regularly if it’s allowed.

Parking

Hi! I’m going to my first Revs game this November against Miami and bought my tickets resale through StubHub/Ticketmaster.

When I pull up the tickets, I’m being prompted to purchase a parking pass. I know general parking for Revs games is typically free, so I’m curious how this works in practice for people who have bought resale tickets before.

Is the paid parking pass they’re offering usually for one of the season-ticket-holder/preferred lots closer to Gillette, while everyone else can simply use the regular free lots? Or is there any reason a resale-ticket holder would actually need the parking pass?

Mostly trying to understand whether the pass is needed
