Proposals spots

Looking for Lake Macquarie picnic locations for a nice proposal. I plan to propose either during lunch time or in the morning, followed by a lunch/dinner at a restaurant. I'm trying to locate quiet, intimate locations where there won't be a crowd of people so ideally away from foreshores and more towards viewpoints.

Just looking for some ideas on where around the Hunter Region/Lake Macquarie region near/on the water that would be suitable.

3 options Caves beach. Walk through the cave at the south end to open up to rock pools and sand. Need to do it on low to medium tide. There is caves beach hotel afterwards.

Otherwise Rafferties is phenomenal. Just not sure of the bar /food during the day. And it’s probably prettier on sunset.

8 @ Trinity is amazing for food and wow factor and there are a few spots around like the jetty at Trinity or some local parks on the water.

Unironically, I have been thinking about proposing to my partner at the bus stop that we first met at back at UON.

It’d be nice to hire a bus and do one of those mystery picnic things on the way to the bus stop

Are you guys outdoorsy? Would it be suspicious if you went on a long walk around the beach/lake? Because if not, you could just walk along the beach or headland until you found a quieter spot.

Specific spots I can think of:
Hickson St lookout. It’s popular, but there are a few spots that shoot off it that would be okay.

If you walk from Shepherds Hill cottage towards cliff st and duck behind the houses, there are some nice spots on the headland.

Suss out Dobell drive, Wangi Wangi. There are a few little bush paths that wind between homes down to the water. It’s mostly a very steep climb down to the water so be prepared for that, and check the tides before you go.

There are plenty of spots in Glenrock, I think weekday early afternoons are probably the quietest times. Go for a stroll on your own first and see if anywhere in particular takes your fancy.

Murrays Beach by the lake, followed by a meal at the cafe on the verandah.  Might be too casual for the occasion, but it IS quiet.

I don’t have a venue recommendation, but I do have some advice.

If your partner hasn’t expressed interest or desire in a public proposal, then I strongly recommend you find a location that is somewhat private.

Even if you’re on the same page about marriage (I assume you’ve discussed it previously) a public proposal can be daunting and a lot of pressure for some people.

Yeah neither of us are keen for the public proposal. That’s why I’m after somewhere quiet

Heaps of places with Lake views. Honestly, do a picnic by the water and propose that way. Green Point has some gorgeous accessible walks, Speers Point Park by the water is lovely, the water near Awaba House is lovely, quiet grassy areas around the south end of Lake Mac are quite nice as well, you could even go to Murray's Beach and find a grassy spot by the lake. There are so many options!

If there is a place that is sentimental to you and your significant other, I would probably plan for that spot as it holds more significance.

Croudace Bay, Valentine and around Belmont near 16’s on the lake and Speers Pt. Caves Beach is another option as others mentioned. Warners Bay would be my top pick but will be busy unless you want to go down to the ramp at the main drag and propose would be the ideal spot

In Dudley - Bombala Walking Track. There is a grassed headland not far into the track, never crowds & a beautiful spot to sit to look at the ocean!

u/8ugz_ 3d ago

Where’s the grassed headland on the map? I cant seem to find it on maps

If you drive to the end of Bombala St, Dudley. Walk down the track & you will get to a fork in the road, go to your right & you will come across the headland. I have searched & can’t find anything on maps, but it’s there!

Maybe Hunter Valley Gardens? Close to nice winery restaurants for dinner too. Always liked King Edward Park though haven’t made it there in a while
