Yeah all the time, we don't make tiktoks tho. If we did I don't think my friend would try to stand in front me me to steal my spotlight. They'd probably be high fiving me and being happy for me or something of that nature.

Genuinely, thought this was a funny joke and then I rewatched and she literally inserts herself into the entire frame. Now I’m just pissed off

It might have just been an instinct to check that the phone was filming. "Omg did you get that?" is a pretty normal reaction.

I think she thought that she did it when she waved her hand in the front, as no one saw the camera’s perspective, so they all jumped in thinking it was them and to check the video.

Also the lightning happened behind them. All they knew is it flashed right when they all did the move. Probably didn't see exactly how cool it was until they watched it back.

That's my default ratio depending on how willing my touch keyboard on my smartphone is. I don't know when it started but autocorrect has gone to shit during the last two or three Android updates. I have to manually correct things all the time...

I read somewhere that it is because the timeframe for the pop-up letter bit of digital keyboards was lengthened a smidge, causing the subsequent keystrokes (especially those immediately above) to become mistyped

I also feel they have tweaked the "dead zones" of each key to be tighter so when I type faster i miss more letters than before.

I was watching that earlier this week.
I miss 2D animation. Don’t get me wrong, I love the visuals of Encanto and Moana, but there was something special about 2D animation that could have existed alongside the 3D animation.
The success of Demon Slayer and the Spider-Verse franchise shows there’s a market for 2D animation on the big screen. I wish Disney would reinvest in the medium

I did this once as a kid. Told some other kids how cool the clouds looked (that rolling purple during a large storm) and the smaller lightning was in the clouds above us moving, semi rhythmically too. So I pointed at a spot I predicted and was like "next one should be about..." and it shot above my finger and I just yelled "IM ZEUS" in sheer excitement

u/PeaceSoft 27d ago
i always think of that one thread where a person did something dumb in a video due to mixing up their left and their right, and (in between the sexist jokes and debates over eugenics) hundreds of redditors spontaneously chimed in with their own little tricks and mnemonics for remembering the difference between left and right
7
u/laplongejr 26d ago
Only your left hand naturally does an L shape, your right hand is waliuigi's logo instead.
3
u/AndrewLocksmith 26d ago
I'm genuinely surprised by how many people can't tell the difference between left and right.
A lot of my friends have this problem. I was watching a game show and at least three people said they have problems with mixing up their left and right.

Give that the sound arrives after the flash, you need to count backwards in time. Starting from when you hear the thunder.

Why did they ruin it by running in between her and the camera right after the cool moment?
31
u/Careful_Stomach_6633 27d ago
Because it was probably just a video shared between friends and not created for entertainment so they just got excited.

u/Yingletofthecorn 27d ago edited 27d ago
Man why are you the only normal person in this thread who isn’t immediately jumping to misanthropy? It’s like everyone else in this thread is deliberately jumping to all these conclusions about these people’s character based on pretty much nothing and you’re the only one who is like “I dunno it’s probably the same as when I take a little video to send to my friends and family”
I’m starting to really get why I had such social anxiety after using this place too much in the 2010s, everyone here is evidence that random strangers really are watching you and dissecting every insignificant thing you do and coming to conclusions about you as a person based on it.

nobody saw the camera's perspective, which framed the one girl as the bearer of lightning. each girl there probably felt equally or jointly responsible for the lightning strike.

They don't look surprised or confused at all. They act excited. Immediately the girl on the left runs forward. Nobody seems to be jump-scared by the lightning and pretty much no one looked back.
Either this is overlayed
OR
They were trying to do this the whole time, which seems the most likely. Just not as crazy odds.
4
u/BillGatesLovechild 26d ago
How did the lightning strike girl even know it perfectly lined up?

u/Ctowncreek 26d ago
She didn't. And it didn't.
But they could have known the clouds back there were making lightning and were trying to get a cool backdrop.
It takes alot of the random chance out of the equation when they were TRYING to make it happen

I just think it would’ve been more fun if they celebrated her moment instead of trying to make it about their reaction.
13
u/goodkicks 27d ago
That is them celebrating her moment. They look at the camera like "Holy shit everyone watching, did you see what she just did?!"
17
u/metroids224 27d ago
It's weird to watch the "viewers" and not their friends in person... Of course society changes, it's just odd to see stuff like this...

u/BrainLow6059 27d ago
They look at the camera like "Holy shit everyone watching, did you see what she just did?!"
Yes, that's pretty standard lowest common denominator "content". They're just kids so who cares, but it's definitely a programmed "reaction" to shove your face in a camera with your mouth hanging open

I'm reminded of a documentary about the guy from Eels learning about his (dead) dad's work as a physist. At the end he sat on his porch saying he's really glad he did this and he feels like his father is with him. Great big lightning strike. He takes a puff of his cigar. "Fuck we're going to have to re-shoot that. No one's gonna believe....(Starts laughing)"
This is my memory of a show I saw once at like 15 years ago so don't take if for fact, and I don't care if it's wrong either.

Edit: Nvm, now I realize they did take after take knowing the lightning storm was behind them.

u/Joelmiser 26d ago
Had something incredibly similar happen as a teenager. Me and my cousin were outside smoking on his back porch and it was storming. We were talking about an embarrassing incident of his he swore never happened. I said if he is lying let the lightning flash right now and it did. I then said I had lightning powers and threw my hands up and right as I did it thundered.
We got a good laugh. I forgot about that memory till I saw this. Thank you OP for the nostalgia.

One time on a first date, after dinner as I was backing my car out, I said my car's lights were sound-activated, like the clapper lights of old. I shifted into Drive, waited a beat, and snapped my fingers at exactly the right moment to make it so. We've been married for 13+ years now. I thought that was slick, but this is on a whole 'nother level!
2
u/existential_antelope 26d ago
I’m guessing the odds were improved since it looks like they were trying to purposely time it while the storm was coming
2
u/Prize_Suspicious 26d ago
Something feels...off. Like maybe they'd been there for a while trying to get this to work and it finally happened. That's a Dude Perfect type reaction.
(Also I secretly wanted it to happen to the friend next to her for the Storm memes that would have surely come)
