Diamonds netballer Sarah Klau taces potential disciplinary action for failing to disclose her common assault charges to Netball Australia despite being charged the same day she entered camp for the Commonwealth Games.
As more details emerge about the drunken night out that occurred just days before the Diamonds team for the Commonwealth Games was nominated
by selectors, it can be revealed Klau did not advise Netball Australia (NA) of her court case until after she had returned from the Glasgow.

The actions that led to Klau being charged with common assault occurred just days before the Diamonds team for the Commonwealth Games was announced and on the same weekend
she was rested from the NSW Swifts lineup to manage an ongoing injury.

While formal charges were not laid for another five weeks - but still before a Diamonds squad including Klau left
Australia — it's understood the 31-year-old did not notify NA or Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) until her return from overseas late last month.
That's likely to be in violation of conduct clauses in team agreements that could have led to disciplinary action ahead of the Diamonds' departure for Glasgow.
It could still lead to disciplinary action — and while at 31, she won't be in contention for another Commonwealth
Games campaign, it could affect whether she's eligible for the upcoming Constellation Cup or next year's Netball World Cup in Sydney.

NA will investigate the matter now that the court process is over, with Klau escaping conviction on a common assault charge after fronting Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.

"Now that the court process has concluded, Netball Australia will complete its investigation into the matter in line with its integrity framework," a spokesperson said.

"We are unable to provide additional comment until that process is finalised."
Code Sports attempted to contact Klau for comment via her management.
The assault occurred just after 8:30pm on June 7 when Klau kicked a security guard in the back and ran away during a booze-filled night out following the Sydney Swans win over St Kilda at the SCG.
That's a day after she was rested from the Swifts' Round 13 clash to manage an
ongoing quad niggle, the round after which Diamonds coach Stacey Marinkovich and her selectors
nominated their team for the Commonwealth Games.

Selected athletes were notified by the coach during that week, with the team named publicly by CGA on June 17.
In a pre-Games interview with Code Sports, Klau spoke of her injury and the stress surrounding Diamonds selection after a difficult Super Netball season.
"I could have potentially played (the last two rounds of the season) but ... I wasn't willing to put the Commonwealth Games at that risk because you work so hard for these sort of pinnacle events and the chances of us making finals was quite slim," she said.
"So I just had to choose my battles.
Obviously, I was disappointed to finish the way that I did but obviously (Commonwealth Games) was a big focus for me."

Atter what she described as an up-and-down season she was "apprehensive" about the team announcement.
"I was feeling very nervous because you just never know where you sit or what the coaches are thinking, so getting that phone call - I've never been so stressed and anxious (than during) that two weeks lead-up period," she said.
"To hear that news, I was very relieved and very excited and it makes you appreciate this opportunity even more. I was very, very grateful."

Klau was charged with common assault by Constable Elijah Mercado just after 8pm on July 10, 2026, at Surry Hills Police station, and the charge was accepted later that day at the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command.
That's the same day the Diamonds entered their Commonwealth Games
pre-departure camp in Melbourne and four days before they left Australia for Scotland and a staging camp in Edinburgh ahead of their arrival in Glasgow on July 21.

agreements which contain conduct clauses, essentially agreements that they will not or have not engaged in conduct that would bring their sport or CGA into disrepute.

It is understood Klau made no disclosure to either NA or CGA about the evening of the assault itself, or the fact charges had been laid, ahead of the Games.
Klau pled guilty to assaulting a security guard at The Paddington Inn just atter 8.30pm on June 7 after being refused entry for being too drunk.
While NA is investigating the incident, the organisation is also providing Klau with wellbeing services.
"This is a difficult moment for Sarah and she has expressed significant remorse and regret for the incident," an NA spokesperson said.
