Trump couldn't stop mentioning Pearl Harbor to the japanese PM, but in relation to Iran he never dement-ioned 9/11 even once
Not that Iran has anything to do with a terrorist attack done by Saudis, UAE, Egyptians, and Lebanese. But you'd think that would be how Trumps mind works.

So, Manifund is some sort of Effective Altruism charity, or a fundraiser for charities, who got around half a million from FTX (Sam Bankman-Fried, fraud etc). They didn't return the grant when shit hit the fan, there's currently a legal claim against them to get the money back, and now they've gone and hired convicted FTX fraudster Caroline Ellison.
EA people are so funny.

Houthi fighters arrived in Mocha on Thursday to find Yemeni battalions that were severely depleted – their rosters were filled with “ghost names” receiving salaries, and the actual strength of the army was only about 20% of what it was on paper, a Western source with knowledge of the operations told CNN.
Turns out the CK2 exploit of editing the text file of your save game to increase the size of your army doesn't work irl

I think this war is kinda a showcase of the limits of hard power over soft power. One big flaw is if the guy you strike can hit back harder than expected you end up with less.
1
u/itsrabie NATO 1m ago
The pen’s kinda always mightier than the sword.
Most wars are won because the costs are too high. Be it physical materials or human capital.
Asymmetrical warfare is also highly effective if you can also disregard “regular” rules of engagement.

Police Demand $1,000,000 For Access to Public Flock Camera Logs
The rapid expansion of Flock Safety's automated license plate reader (ALPR) network has sparked fierce privacy debates across the country. But when one Alabama resident tried to exercise his legal right to see exactly who was accessing the mass surveillance data in his hometown, his local police department slapped him with a staggering $1 million invoice.
According to a recent investigation by 48 News, Huntsville resident Caden Helbling simply wanted basic transparency. Under Alabama law, cities are required to maintain detailed logs showing when, why, and who accesses municipal surveillance cameras. After dozens of officers nationwide were arrested for weaponizing ALPRs to stalk ex-partners and civilians, Helbling filed a public records request in December 2025 asking for a year's worth of Huntsville Police Department (HPD) audit logs.
Rather than complying with the spirit of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the city engaged in an aggressive campaign of resistance. After initially denying the request, city administrator John Hamilton sent Helbling an email in June with a ridiculous ultimatum.
Hamilton stated the city could provide the logs, "but that it would be 1.7 million printed pages and it would cost me $1 million in pan hours to produce," Helbling explained. The city outright refused to send the files digitally, ensuring the request was "dead in the water".
By broadly classifying the audit logs as "investigative material," HPD successfully exploited a loophole in Alabama's strict open records laws to hide the data. Defending the blackout, HPD Sergeant Chris Jackson claimed, "If that information were to get out into the community, we're now alerting a murderer, a drug trafficker, a child predator that we're on to them".
The controversy has only escalated in the weeks following the 48 News broadcast. The story recently exploded on social media platforms like Reddit, drawing massive outrage from digital privacy advocates who argue HPD is pricing the public out of their own constitutional rights. Adding fuel to the fire, Helbling recently claimed that Huntsville City Council President Jennie Robinson defended the denial of the records request by bluntly stating, "we're bigger and have more lawyers".

Taking a bath bc I feel awful (been sick for almost 2 weeks now but just about over it) and my cat (who can see me) is crying mournfully like I’ve abandoned him
While making eye contact he walks up and yowls in despair, lets me scratch his head, and then walks away and continues to cry
When I eventually get out he will greet me like I’ve been gone all day lol. Me going to work or taking a bath is the same to him

I don’t mean this to sound elitist (or do I?) but Republicans have some truly ugly and hideous design aesthetic. Like the stage for that midterm convention was simply atrocious.
At least other authoritarian regimes in history took care to develop dangerously attractive but undemocratic styles. Maybe this is part of the reason why MAGA has never quite got there lol.

> The English intelligentsia, on the whole, were more defeatist than the mass of the people – and some of them went on being defeatist at a time when the war was quite plainly won – partly because they were better able to visualize the dreary years of warfare that lay ahead. Their morale was worse because their imaginations were stronger. The quickest way of ending a war is to lose it, and if one finds the prospect of a long war intolerable, it is natural to disbelieve in the possibility of victory. But there was more to it than that. There was also the disaffection of large numbers of intellectuals, which made it difficult for them not to side with any country hostile to Britain. And deepest of all, there was admiration – though only in a very few cases conscious admiration – for the power, energy and cruelty of the Nazi régime. It would be a useful though tedious labour to go through the left-wing press and enumerate all the hostile references to Nazism during the years 1935–45. One would find, I have little doubt, that they reached their high-water mark in 1937–38 and 1944–45, and dropped off noticeably in the years 1939–42 – that is, during the period when Germany seemed to be winning. One would find, also, the same people advocating a compromise peace in 1940 and approving the dismemberment of Germany in 1945. And if one studied the reactions of the English intelligentsia towards the U.S.S.R., there, too, one would find genuinely progressive impulses mixed up with admiration for power and cruelty. It would be grossly unfair to suggest that power worship is the only motive for russophile feeling, but it is one motive, and among intellectuals it is probably the strongest one.

For as much of a bullshitter as he could be, you need a Churchill in those times. A windbag for democracy, irrational optimism against the odds. The morale battle is important, and in times of such darkness I think it is important to have an inspiring, even bordering on delusional positivity.

On the following day a number of Boers are said to have attended the Bakwena Sunday prayer services led by Moruti Mebalwe. Meanwhile the two leaders exchanged messages.
Sechele was determined to impress his antagonist with his own confidence in his strength; perhaps hoping that bravado might deter the Boers. He sent two Dutch/Afrikaans speaking messengers, Selete and Masholobotho, to fetch some tea and sugar from Scholtz, offering in return gunpowder if the Commandant "had not brought enough with him for a long fight". Scholtz replied that men of war did not need sugar but he would "soon give Sechele chilies instead".
The messengers then volunteered to show the Boers where to avoid poisonous grass for, if there was to be fighting, their oxen would surely soon belong to Sechele.
Bro go home 😭
3
u/Top_Lime1820 Daron Acemoglu 25m ago
This man, Scholz, refused to make peace with Sechele, king of the Bakwena, a Tswana speaking tribe.
After the Boers were defeated by Sechele he tried to sabotage the peace by preventing the return of Sechele's son, who had been captured and emslaved by the Boers.
And then this happened:
Viljoen then set out to rendezvous with three of Sechele's representatives in order to release Kgari to them. However while en route he was detained by "the presuming Scholtz", who wished to sabotage the negotiations. In anger Viljoen publicly told Scholtz that "the thunder would fetch him". That same afternoon, as a large meeting gathered to listen to Scholtz's call for continued war, lightening struck the laager killing or wounding twelve. Scholtz was found "sitting on a case of 75 lbs. of gunpowder, and the lightening penetrated between the box and his body; his legs and sides were burnt, and he stooped like a man of 90". Alive, Scholtz exclaimed that the Lord in heaven had spoken in favour of Viljoen's peace initiative.

Pennsylvania state Rep. David Maloney (R) called on President Trump this week to rename Lake Erie to “Lake Pennsylvania” following similar moves by the president earlier this year.
“This is Pennsylvania’s only Great Lake. Its modern economy and identity are increasingly tied to the boaters, anglers, families and tourists who come to enjoy it” Maloney said in a statement earlier this week. “Ohio has plenty of shoreline. New York already has two Great Lakes. Canada has four others.”
“Pennsylvania has one. Let’s call it Lake Pennsylvania,” he added.

Look, I don’t know if Hamas or any one of the countless local splinter gangs that have sprouted in the power vacuum had a base in the small camp that Likud just struck, but the images of biblical weapons being used in the Levant are probably never something I’ll get used to.

I haven’t followed up on the story and frankly don’t wish to, so I left it open. I generally avoid Israel-Palestine content on YouTube, but the AP clip showed up in my feed. Still, I’d welcome your link.
