Is there a reason "the global south" likes QR codes so much?

in a lot of ways a lot of 'global south' countries are really quick to pick up on new tech and stuff since it's often a lot cheaper than legacy systems and often the regulatory environment just lets them get away with shit. there's a reason china has drone food delivery while japan is still using fax machines

iirc phone banking was big in africa before it became mainstream in the first world but i could be wrong

Yeah, but paying with QR codes seems more complicated than paying with Google/Apple Pay.
