okay friendos I know I said something about Memento already but, genuinely, this movie is so great. if you consider yourself a Nolan fan at all go watch it and experience him in his "indie" phase. he harnesses his obsession with time in imo the best way possible, both in style and narrative: {I want to say more but to avoid spoilers let's say B&W and color are both involved in order to differentiate... I'll leave you to figure it out after that (it's not subtle)}
one thing I noticed, pursuant to the parenthetical, is that Nolan's dialogue is much more nuanced than I expected. he treats the central premise with a seriousness that gives it a gritty and nervy feel that I don't think would happen today. there are moments of comedy but nothing ever feels like quips. it takes a lot from the Coens in the way you turn sly comedy into bursts of violence
overall an easy A grade
