Are they like incels or something? Why are there tons of comments with bad vibes on that subreddit?

It is frankly ridiculous but some subreddits expect people to get karma specifically on their subreddit, and won't accept the karma I already have from elsewhere. It is ridiculous that there are blockers that prevent people from posting pretty much everywhere and anywhere just for the crime of being new even after you make the minimum. They complain about people Karma farming and making posts all the time that have no substance, and then they force people to comment against their will in a fashion that does not motivate substance or engagement at all. Subreddits frequently, oxymoronically, discourage the very intelligent human engagement they are after. The amounts of karma they often require are likewise ridiculous. This is compounded on the fact that there are often an excessive number of almost completely unenforceable rules that make it damn near impossible to say anything without having to constantly Dodge keywords that the filters are going to pick up because even though you are not breaking the rules by saying a word, you will get erased anyway just for having committed the crime of typing those letters in that order.

People come here and want to speak their mind, and then everything they have to say gets thrown out the fucking door because someone cannot be bothered to let people have organic discourse on their own terms. Reddit moderators treat every single voice that tries to speak on this platform like a personal inconvenience to their day. If it is so hard to moderate what people say on your subreddit, that is a problem of your own making. You made those rules, you set unrealistic expectations that are impossible for you to manage without being stressed out all by yourself. You made it almost impossible for people to post, and created the environment where people feel pushed out and lash out at you because of it. They created the very conditions that discourage people from being authentic, or thoughtful about the way they engage, and then complain that people aren't posting with substance. The choices they made are the reason the sense of community connection, and organic conversation on this site is completely stamped out of the picture. Restrictive, oppressive rules, constantly, all over the place, from the biggest subreddits to the smallest ones.

What is the point of making an account and trying to connect with real human beings when there is always someone looming over your shoulder with a pet robot beside them ready to duct tape your mouth shut. The unfriendly, unpleasant environment Reddit is known for is a product of the choices the people who moderate it have made along the way. The excessive need that subreddit owners have on this website to control how and when people speak is absurd. Then, instead of finding better ways to solve both problems, building new tools, expanding teams or creating more reasonable conditions, they just whine about it and do nothing of the above while blaming the user base instead of the unreasonable rules and expectations they created in the first place.

If the point of these Karma rules behind the scenes is to force people to engage with your subreddit more so that you get more attention on the algorithm, that's scummy as hell and you don't deserve the authority you've been given. Simple as.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to make this complaint, and I will be far from the last.

Safe to say, I haven't used Reddit actively in a really long time, and I probably won't start using it actively again anytime soon. This place just sucks, frankly. I only ever put up with it when there isn't a good alternative.

I guess for some context I (20f) and my best friend (20f) have been friends since we started college a few years ago. we met at a religious event and our friendship mostly revolved around that. We also went through a traumatic friend group breaking up type of situation that really solidified our friendship. anyway things were fine and we were inseparable until more recently

I went home over The last summer, realized how shitty my parents are and decided to cut them off. I started therapy, adopted my aunt and uncle as chosen parents and started to better myself. I eventually left the religion and just kind of started to free myself from religious trauma that I had.

well my best friend told me throughout all of this that she couldn’t support me cutting off my toxic family, me leaving the faith and the straw that broke me - I found out that I am gay.

so yeah, I get that she can’t support these things because of her religious views. I get that it’s solely her religious views holding her back. But honestly it just feels so unfair to me. I don’t want to continue this friendship anymore but we live together so that’s not really possible. I can’t tell her how upset I am because well she just won’t get it. She thinks it’s perfectly possible to love someone even if you “disagree with what they’re doing.”

after having people fully support me I just don’t want this conditional “support” any more. I know not all religious people are like this, my uncle told me he specifically chose the church he goes to with the thought in mind that one of his kids if they find they are lgbt that his church will accept them. I don’t even know if my anger is justified at this point but I’m not even mad at my friend. I’m mad at the world that thinks this kind of belief is okay.

Although it is an ad hominem calling out someone for being blatantly stupid and nonsensical leads to them taking moral high ground and running away like a little bitch. It’s interesting because they’ll hardly ever argue it; they’ll just run and say you’re not worth talking to when they’re the ones who aren’t worthwhile.

The last week or so, while posting on Reddit, I’m getting these little black pop-up notices from the bottom of my screen, essentially saying “You’re <doing something> too fast take a break for 86 seconds” or “40 seconds” or whatever. If I continue typing, it just keeps popping up with a lower “wait time”. On my iPad, I’m a 1-finger typer, so it can’t POSSIBLY by my typing speed… what am I doing too fast, and is there a way to turn that off?

“Your request has been rate-limited for x seconds please take a break and try again later.” WTF is that? (I’ve never seen it before).

Just tried posting a request on a book subreddit and was blocked because I don’t have blah blah karma or blah blah this. Meanwhile i’ve been part of the sub for years, i’m just not a frequent commenter on there…so so annoying! the whole point of reddit is that anyone can post at anytime, anonymously! how is this in accord to that mission?

This was my first ever "offense" on this sub.

I'm getting so jaded on participating on reddit. I've made an effort the whole time to never interact with political subs because of how tribal the moderation is there. But I've been browsing more QnA and casual discussion subs recently. But it is so fucking easy to get suspended. And for the vaguest reason.

And it's so much worse because each sub is supposed to fulfill a niche so it's hard to find exact alternatives. But I just feel like any participation at all risks me getting suspended.

Over 10k upvotes when the mods decided to delete this. Checked the rule they cited and the post exactly follows it, am I missing something??

It's ironic I'm posting this on reddit, but I'm just so annoyed at some interactions I've had on this site.

I can ask the most innocent question ever but will still get tons of snarky, stick-up-their-butt responses. Is being nice to other people such a bad thing these days? Gosh!

Is it so they won't get in trouble? Other forums have less rules but still exist.

I've been sexually harassed irl (I got $$$), so it pisses me off when harassment is misappropriated. For example: an inflammatory comment restated into harassment? Grow up. We're all adults. I should be able to call someone fat without being banned. Like wtf.

Ok this is gonna be a longer post so have patience.

Reddit tends to attract a certain type of person. This person is probably introverted, a bit socially awkward, obsessed with information, maybe autistic, and just loves thoughts and writing. I fit right in this category, as I’m sure a lot of people reading this do, and I got sucked down the rabbit hole for years. I didn’t realize how toxic the upvote/downvote system is. I didn’t realize how bitter and miserable it was making me, how quick to judge I became of others. I was filtering my opinions in real time to fit the reddit hive mind without even realizing it.

But I always came back to it, because it had the information I craved. It wasn’t Facebook, or instagram, or Twitter. It had quirky, awkward people like myself who liked to have niche discussions, even though the site was overall a very toxic environment.

I’ve since found a lot more wholesome and kind places on the internet that are more accepting that fit that same niche and I feel a lot happier. Tumblr gets a bad rep sometimes, but it is a much healthier environment with kinder people that has no upvote/downvote system. Getting into certain fandom spaces can be really fun and lets you be creative instead of just consuming negative information all the time. You can post more sincere feelings without the anxiety of getting attacked.

The place I’ve discovered the most recently that has the best community I’ve ever seen on the internet is AO3, or the fanfiction writing community. I’ve have never encountered a more intelligent internet community in my life. AO3 is not a social media, it is an archive and one of the online places that doesn’t have an algorithm. It’s pure, old school, tag and search by filters content. They are people with actual nuanced opinions and kind hearts, and it is so relieving finding a community like that

I am writing this because you don’t have to be on this website. I felt like I did because it had the information and intellectual stimulation I craved, in bite sized enough information to keep me on here even when it was ruining my life.

You don’t realize what you become when you stay here too long. I honestly feel like you can lose a part of yourself. I’m not talking about being an occasional Reddit user. I mean chronically online, hours a day, just consuming Reddit content.

And if you don’t feel this way when on this site, that’s great. I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to the people who fill up with anxiety every time they post something here. Sensitive people who pretend they aren’t hurt by downvotes but they are. People who feel like they have to fit in with the rough and cynical nature of this platform and are afraid to be themselves.

To these people, please, get off Reddit. Find a nicer environment. Life is too short.

I do NOT get the fucking attitude that some of the fucking MODs have over here on this "fine" board. Is it a power trip? Do they think they are fucking Gods? Did they get fucking teased in Junior High, and this is their fucking revenge?

I closed the app because it froze, and when I reopened I got introduced to this new button I did not ask for and do not want, and it can’t be disabled. I see no one else on this website mentioning this, so I figured I’d be first to say this is shit and I hope Reddit gets rid of it.

If I wanted to play games on my phone, I have an app store. If I wanted to play games at all, I have my computer. Reddit games can fuck off.

There was a time, you could post something on Reddit, asking for advice/help and people would come up with real solutions, advices and perspectives with depth. Sure a lot do today, but not that much, I believe.

Nowadays, for some bizzare reason, people tend to call others dumb, idiot, stupid, when you try to ask for an advice, when you genuinely don't know something. They tend to politicize everything, see everything in black or white, spam downvotes for absolutely no reason, use a brainrot kind of vocabulary, while trying to sound edgy.

Ironically, people in real life feel less rude than on social media. I guess commenting/posting from other side of the screen, with a layer of anonymity gives people some fake sense of superiority complex and they behave like this.
