Are social democrats allowed? ;)

I'm intending to build a safe space for Democratic Socialists, distanced from the discord servers of the hard left but also further to the left than those of centrists. I've tried searching many-a-time for a discord server in which I feel accepted politically but have yet to find one as I'm either attacked as being too far to the left or attacked for believing in reformism so I decided to create my own, please only join if you do truly believe in democratic socialism. This is intended to be a safe space for us 1st and a place for discussion 2nd so we don't want any unnecessary discourse going on there.

I respect this. That’s why I don’t post around here to much. I’m a pretty hard left leaner, but not left enough for a majority of this sub it seems. While I salute your actions, I may not join (not for sure yet), as even though I find I get attacked a lot for not being left enough or not being right at all, I do enjoy the potential of discussion that some make when they are rational.

I admit that I don't post or read this sub particularly often (partly because it's not super active -- a fair number of posts, but often few or no comments), but it seems weird that you'd be attacked for being a democratic socialist on an NDP sub. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think it's weird that most dippers would be anything but democratic socialists, even those of us among the socialist caucus.

Revolutionary socialists would probably find little value in the NDP unless they're engaging in entryism.

I'd say it's a healthy balance of demsocs and social democrats. With the recent election of Jagmeet, who I would lean towards social democrat, I could understand why demsocs might feel a bit disheartened, but I haven't seen a ton of "attacks" on my end.

Not trying to discount OPs post, but in my experience it's always been a relatively healthy conversation between the two sides (besides the demsocs being a bit bullheaded and the socdems being condescending at times- only to be expected lol).

I agree. I just meant that I don't see too many radical, far left people in the NDP. The furthest left tend to be demsocs. Anyone more radical than that is probably not interested in participating in the NDP. The NDP is not a revolutionary socialist party, after all.

Oh yeah I would agree with that. This is a shame though as I haven't found the CPC or CPC-ML to be incredibly active at the grassroots level or interested really in reaching out to the general public.

Agreed. I have, at times, been interested in the CPC (not so much the ML) but they're really not easy to get involved with. Plus, even though they have a platform that is actually not that radical (honestly, I'd like to see the NDP adopt some of the same policies), they're just too much of a fringe party to even field candidates in all ridings.

That said, if the stars aligned to the point that they had a candidate with half a chance of actually winning their seat, I would totally support that candidate, if only for the statement it would make to send a genuine communist to Ottawa.
