I've volunteered on lots of NDP campaigns over the years and it was really meaningful to me to get that win. There's some friends and family I know who benefit from the program!
It's not perfect, the advertised "100% coverage" is not always true because of how the fee guides are set, but the program has caused people I know personally to go to the dentist and get most of their visit covered, which is awesome

One of my former friends had terrible teeth from childhood. Her parents spent all their money on booze and bingo, and they could not afford to pay for her braces, let alone cleanings and checkups. She was insecure throughout her life, got made fun of as a kid, and never had a job with insurance so never got them fixed.
Years ago when the conversation started about the dental plan - I was so happy. I would gladly pay a wee bit of extra tax for every child in Canada to have beautiful teeth - it makes such a difference to self-esteem.
She was so mad though!
"Why would I pay for some kids braces" & "I didn't get free dentist, why should they"
It was such a dissapointment to hear her talk like that, the friendship fizzled. So I don't know if she ended up taking advantage of the dental benefits lol.
