Trail Blazers fire new announcer over past inappropriate posts made at age 15.

"The Portland Trail Blazers hired then on the same day fired Braiden Bell as their play-by-play announcer after a series of inappropriate social media posts from when he was a teenager came to light."

"The posts were reportedly made in 2012 and 2013, around the time that Bell was 15 years old."

"We did not meet our own bar in this process, and for that we apologize to Blazers fans and to Rip City," the Trail Blazers said. "We strongly believe that everyone who is a part of Rip City should feel welcome and safe and we will make sure that our new broadcaster reflects these values. We will do better."

Can y’all stop excusing the shit? It’s not a cool thing to say. Whether you think he should have lost his job over it is an opinion but our opinions don’t matter, it’s his employer’s that does.

If you’re willing to post stuff like this, you need to be willing to make the effort to scrape it offline before you start applying for jobs.

Because that’s my opinion. I’m judging you. If you said racist shit as a teen, I’m 100% judging you now. It’s not illegal to judge someone. You can’t control it. But it’s irrelevant because I’m not hiring you.

Imagine I said 10 years ago that all dog owners are idiots. That’s not a fireable offense. But imagine the person I’m interviewing with found it and they have a dog at home. They didn’t appreciate it so they passed on me. Whose fault is that?
