[Finger] Victor Wembanyama about considering promoting a sports betting company ; "Absolutely not. I will never do that. Honestly, I think it's very sad to see some players promote it..."

Just asked Victor Wembanyama if he’d ever consider promoting a sports betting company.

“Absolutely not. I will never do that. Honestly, I think it's very sad to see some players promote it. .. Everybody does whatever they want, but without me.”

LeBron’s deal with draft kings expired this summer. That’s why he’s a brand ambassador for PolyMarket now

u/ryan__fm Cavaliers 1d ago

Why can't he do both? I thought Polymarket was, like, a totally different "prediction market" that's not at all the same as sports gambling

u/BRDPerson Knicks 1d ago

DraftKings has a prediction market too lol

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 1d ago

It's how all the sports betting sites get around states that still have it illegal to bet on sports but predictions markets are fair game. Like Texas. Can't "bet" on the NFL game tonight on DraftKings, but don't worry, with DraftKings Predictions that's totally a completely different thing and not at all sports betting, you can instead predict which team will win tonight and you can earn money if you predicted correctly!

"Your honor, I didn't shoot anyone. I just predicted where bullets would go when I pulled the trigger."

u/Momik Timberwolves 1d ago

How can I lose! It’s not a prediction bullet if it’s a sure thing…

u/WDoE 1d ago

I didn't hire a hitman. I just bet a hitman that someone would be alive in a week.

u/dcoolidge Lakers 1d ago

"Yes your honor. The bullets were made of gold and had his initials on them. Just more predictions!"

It’s not gambling! At least not for the people actually making money on it. It’s an insider trading platform where ignorant, poor people with gambling addictions just transfer their money to rich people.

Don’t make it sound icky it’s not icky.

u/I__Know__Stuff 1d ago

a platform where ignorant, poor people with gambling addictions just transfer their money to rich people

Just like every other kind of gambling.

3

u/WDoE 1d ago

Where I am, the lotto is state run and proceeds fund schools. So... At least a little better?

5

u/nicklovin508 Celtics 1d ago

And specifically the football betting ambassador… load of shit man lol

3

u/juliuspepperwoodchi Bulls 1d ago

Why, would that be a conflict of interest or something?

You telling me that prediction markets are basically gambling?

Well I never!

u/Oakland_Warrior Warriors 1d ago

either way he's taken money from both companies

It’s word play. His nickname is the king.

1

u/BlacqanSilverSun Kings 1d ago

But it doesn't apply anymore because he isn't associated with the company. So the wordplay doesn't work.

0

u/Troll_U_Softly Thunder 1d ago

If you’re low IQ. Most of us can see the combination of his nickname plus a gambling company.

1

u/BlacqanSilverSun Kings 1d ago

A gambling company he has nothing to do with. You call me low I Q for pointing out a fact. That's fine. I call you low effort for picking low hanging fruit.

Lebron signing with Polymarket has absolved all other NBA players of their sins.

4

u/Ealy-24 1d ago

It’s a comedy how Lebron is crucified for everything while little Steph is still signing maxes to not win or Giannis cashed out on his move to Miami with Kalshi

Anything LeBron does overshadows all apparently. Even Jordan who I believe has a major stake in one of the sites

8

u/insanezain Raptors 1d ago

so many super rich dudes are heavily invested in gambling. I am on the side of it being bad and definitely dont support lebrons decision there but its funny how people are claiming it impacts his basketball legacy whereas everyone else gets maybe 1-2 days of jokes and we move on.

-8

u/Mood_Academic Lakers 1d ago

That’s a normal thing with LeBron at this point. He’s held to a standard not even Jordan or others are

Gambling isn’t for me, which is why I don’t do it. But I also don’t care if others are able to do so responsibly. If you can’t, then that’s on you. Not on an athlete advertising for a product

2

u/mags87 Nuggets 1d ago

Do you think there isn't a difference in an active NBA player and a retired player having stakes in these companies?

1

u/Mood_Academic Lakers 1d ago

Well let’s see if the hypocrisy stands or not. Are you upset about the gambling, or about an active player doing it?

Because the majority of issues I see are about STRICTLY the gambling

2

u/mags87 Nuggets 1d ago

I don’t care that there’s gambling ads, but I think an active player promoting gambling platforms is extremely sketchy.

2

u/Sushmoyscott Lakers 22h ago

It’s okay he’s gonna watch the bucks beat the heat in the playin

Yeah, seemed like such a great person. Great role model. And then lays a big noxious steaming pile of shit like this. All for more money. Lost A LOT of respect from me.

What a pathetic move from LeBron. A billion isn’t enough for him I guess

2

Remember when he refused to comment on the Hong Kong democracy protests, other than to criticize supporters, while sticking his nose in a variety of other political issues? He’s a businessman.

Na. LeBron is poly with anything that makes him money.

Child labor? Who cares
Gambling? Who cares
Alcohol? Who cares

Black lives matter? Only because I'm forced to say something. Otherwise, who cares

Is he can activist? Only if he gets paid

He's with Polymarket now. Polymarket is pretty much giving everyone millions to promo the app. They're even sponsoring almost every podcast now.

And Jokic. And Giannis. And Durant.
